Conception

Can you help a non-worldly wise MNer in the ways of the world?

Mortified to post this but I'd rather hide behind a pseudonym than ask anyone I actually know.
So prior to TTC I was a condoms-only girl.
I am now finding the wet patch quite difficult to deal with
If I pee after sex will that make it less likely for me to conceive?
TIA

I agree with LittleLapin.

I hate sex without condoms and am so happy DH has to sort it all out 'afterwards'!!!

LOL

scorpio1 · 07/05/2007 17:35

try and wait 20 mins before weeing-it helps the sperm have time to get through your cervix, and not 'fall out'.

put a pillow under your bum to raise your pelvis too. so attractive isnt it!!

PestoMonster · 07/05/2007 17:50

I did the pillow under the bottom & legs up the wall thing too, and conceived straightaway both times.

whomovedmychocolate · 07/05/2007 17:53

I reckon the pillow under bum thing is bollocks. It takes three days for the sperm to find the egg (mostly because coming from a male, they won't ask for directions) so unless you are really tired, it's a non-starter. Besides, you want the fittest sperm to win the race to give you the best chance of an embryo forming successfully.

I got pregnant standing up!

whomovedmychocolate · 07/05/2007 17:53

well more leaning actually

PestoMonster · 07/05/2007 17:54

But it stops the sperm from running out!

whomovedmychocolate · 07/05/2007 17:58

Well put yer knicks back on then or do it on a towel that can be flung in the laundry basket.

whomovedmychocolate · 07/05/2007 17:58

Or in the shower.

bumperlicious · 07/05/2007 18:05

We did a pillow under the bum thing, and conceived in 2 months. Don't know if it really helps.

It does kinda spoil the moment though when just after the deed you have to rush to the bathroom with tissue stuffed between your legs to avoid having to wash the bloody sheets everyday!

AttilaTheMeerkat · 07/05/2007 18:50

The answer to your question is no.

Peeing after sex is helpful as this can get rid of harmful bacteria that can cause uti's.

Some sperm will leak out post sex anyway!!. This is normal.

Enough sperm will get to the cervix from where it won't escape so putting a pillow under your legs after intercourse is actually unnecessary. Its just another myth that's been banded about.

whomovedmychocolate · 07/05/2007 20:55

Actually if you want to get technical about it - leaking of semen is a good thing. When ejaculation occurs, the majority that have a shot at fertilisation are literally propelled into the vagina towards the cervix. The lazy blighters who aren't at the front of the queue don't have a shot anyway, but sperm are competitive and so you want to get rid of the slackers. On the duvet is a good place for useless sperm, less competition for the good ones who are swimming against the tide towards eggy paradise.

Also not all of the semen is sperm you know, a lot of is is protein to protect the sperm until they reach the cervix (then they are on their own).

whomovedmychocolate · 07/05/2007 20:57

Oh and Attila is right about the peeing thing too.

So long as you aren't smoking afterwards (in which case slow down next time) you can do whatever you like and it won't make a blind bit of difference to your likelihood to conceive.

We tried for over a year following all these bits of advice, legs in the air after sex, temping, monitoring cervical mucous and you know what worked? We gave up, had a massive barney and had make up sex. Figures!

AskABusyPerson · 07/05/2007 21:41

I know what you mean about the wet patch 'SorryifTMI', I quite liked lying back in post-lovemaking bliss while HE had to go to the bathroom to remove condom!!

As we're now ttc, we have a big towel to catch the wet! And I get up at leisure to wash...

sniff · 07/05/2007 21:44

i did the bum on pillow too worked though if not at all attractive

lissielou · 07/05/2007 21:45

tbh i put a pillow under my bum as reassurance more than anything, you know, "i am doing absolutely everything i can" and it means dh has to get my pjs and a drink etc for me

MuminBrum · 07/05/2007 21:48

Another good tip is that you need to have your orgasm at the same time or just after him - your cervix will then suck up some of the good stuff at the front!

whomovedmychocolate · 07/05/2007 22:43

MuminBrum - If they can't swim they can't fertilise. But yes and orgasm is a nice way to round off an evening IMHO

sideways · 07/05/2007 22:56

You don't have to have an orgasm at all though.

MuminBrum · 08/05/2007 08:12

You don't have to, Sideways, this is true - but there is some evidence that it helps with TTC, and it does make for a more satisfactory experience!

lissielou · 08/05/2007 08:54

i heard that too, the contractions during an orgasm create a sort of vacuum,

FrannyandZooey · 08/05/2007 09:00

Someone suggested inserting your Mooncup up quite high after sex to keep the semen near your cervix. Quite cunning, I thought.

whomovedmychocolate · 08/05/2007 13:18

F&Z - can I be the first to say 'eeeuwwwwww' to your last post?

MuminBrum · 08/05/2007 13:31

F&Z, never one to miss a marketing opportunity!
