Hello ladies,

My husband and I are planning on starting a family this year, we have some financial things to sort out before we plan to officially start trying but as a first timer I’m just keen to gage an idea of how quickly other women have become pregnant?

I’m 26, so is my husband and I have (generally) regular 30day cycles. We just use condoms so no contraceptive to work out of my system either. I know we’re all different but I just wanted a rough idea of what to expect really.

Thank you!

Implant out 6th December came on period 12th December, next period after that was 21st January and I’m now pregnant so 2 months for me!! Very quick!!

MrsRonBurgundy · 09/03/2018 11:12

Hiya

It took us 7 months to try. I’m 31, husband 33. We didn’t really try very seriously though to be honest, I didn’t want to turn it into some stressful thing. I didn’t track my cycle closely or take my temperature etc. Just stopped using contraception and carried on as normal!

Good luck for when you start trying

juneau · 09/03/2018 11:12

It took me 6 weeks from coming off the pill to being pregnant with DC1.

rumblytummy1 · 09/03/2018 11:13

Most people I have heard in their 20s don't take too long, a month or two if their cycle timing is right. Took me 5 months, but I was 39, so I'm not a good example for you

Wifelife · 09/03/2018 11:19

Thanks ladies that’s really helpful and on the whole quite quick! - my cousin is only 28 and has been trying for 2+ years with no success so that worried us a bit but you’ve put my mind at ease (she’s not eligible for medical help until she loses weight is what she’s told us)

Coil out on Nov 20th and positive pregnancy test on Feb 14th!

Thing is, it's a 'how long is a piece of string' question, because everyone is different. It CAN happen the first month, but equally it can take time. But here are some statistics for you from babycenter:

Celebelly · 09/03/2018 11:56

I'm 32 and got a BFP my first month trying. Sadly it ended in a chem preg, but I was surprised how quick it happened. Like you, I had no hormonal contraception to work its way out of my system, which probably helped as my cycles were fairly regular. We're about to embark on our third cycle (didn't manage to DTD at right time last month for various reasons) so fingers crossed for us both :)

usernotfound0000 · 09/03/2018 11:57

I came off the pill in November and conceived in late June.

Celebelly · 09/03/2018 11:57

Pressed enter to soon. I'd say be prepared practically/financially for it to happen in the first month, but be prepared emotionally for it not to x

Ubercornsdiscoball · 09/03/2018 12:00

Took us a year to conceive our first and 6 months for both our second and third

Mrsjones17 · 09/03/2018 12:05

Started ttc at 28. DH is 30. Perfectly healthy bmi etc same situation as you using condoms no contraception to work out of system. 16months later and still nothing. Just about to undergo fertility testing. As another poster had said financially and mentally be prepared for it to happen quickly but emotionally be prepared for the fact it won’t. Wishing you lots of luck.

cheshiremama89 · 09/03/2018 12:08

First time we had unprotected sex (honeymoon).

I had come off the pill several months previous, we weren't expecting it to be that quick! Grin

Wifelife · 09/03/2018 12:09

Thank you that’s really good advice, can be easily to presume it will be quick and easy and often it’s not, good luck to you!

Thank you for your good luck wishes and I’m wishing anyone else trying the best of luck too - this is my first post so I haven’t figured out how to respond individually (eek!) but thank you for getting back to me x

I got pregnant with my first dc on our first time of trying. I was 27, hadn't taken the pill or anything for about 2 years prior to this. Second dc was on the second month of trying when I was 29. Problem is everyone is different, I've had friends who have struggled, friends who have got pregnant straight away, and unfortunately friends who have had miscarriages. Make sure you start taking folic acid before ttc. Good luck x

Lollipop30 · 09/03/2018 12:23

How long is a piece of string?!

DD1 7yrs
DD2 2yrs
DD3 Didn’t know until I was 4mths gone!

littlepooch · 09/03/2018 12:29

DC1 - 15 months
DC2 - 5 months
DC3 - happy accident. We dtd once in the months following the birth of dc2 and bingo!

AriAliyah · 09/03/2018 12:40

Came off pill for a year after being on it for 10 years, period ended 11th Feb, BFP 27th Feb. I'm 27 and partner is 30. Both amazed it happened so fast. 4+5 today!

balljuggla · 09/03/2018 12:56

Took us six weeks. This was last year, I was 33 and DP 41. We'd been taking various supplements for around 18 months though (maca, vitamin b complex, ubiquinol) which I am sure helped. I had been using OPKs for a few months before that so I knew exactly when I was fertile but didn't bother temping or anything. Was still a surprise it happened so quickly. Good luck Smile

MyBabyBoyBlue · 09/03/2018 13:02

It took us five months, three of those were with cycle tracking and OPKs!

Mindhunter · 09/03/2018 13:09

Dd i was on the pill and stupidly didnt realise that being sick can make it not work. Not that i would change her for the wold
Ds 2months
Ds2 4months

physicskate · 09/03/2018 13:18

Two years and counting...

Mrscog · 09/03/2018 13:21

2 months for both DC - I was very cycle aware though and get ovulation pains which helped to know when to dtd. I was 27 for DC1, 30 DC2.

childmindingmumof3 · 09/03/2018 13:23

All three of mine were first attempts.

I think average is around 6 months though.
