I'm new on here and I'm so desperate for advice. I have a 21 month old and I'm still breastfeeding him. I've had returned periods since 6 months ago and they're regular for 4 months now. I've been trying to conceive for almost a year and I haven't had luck yet. Just to add I've used OPK for two months now and it does show positive on CD 14/15 and I get ovulation pains. My issue is my husband works abroad and he comes every 6 weeks for only 10 days, after April's visit he won't be back for another year or so. I just visited doctors today to Maybe see if I can delay my period so it delays my ovulation for when he's here or if I can at least somehow encourage ovulation later however they were no help and since my period is due in the next two days I can't do much either. Can anyone suggest anything or a solution please!!

Can you visit him while he's away?

Sarsparella · 08/03/2018 19:08

I think you’re putting far too much pressure on yourself to think you can plan conceiving to a six week window, and will your Dh continue to work away permanently? Would you then potentially be with two small children alone? What’s the future plan here?

stellarfox · 08/03/2018 19:17

Can your husband choose when he comes back so that it is timed for when you ovulate?

RockinRobinTweets · 08/03/2018 19:19

Go back to your dr and ask for a tablet to delay your period because you’re going on holiday. Good luck

PotteringAlong · 08/03/2018 19:20

freeze sperm at a sperm bank and then self inseminate?

NerrSnerr · 08/03/2018 19:21

Could you try artificial insemination? I really don't know how it works but I'm sure people do it themselves?

Really sorry if that's not helpful (I'm thinking turkey baster kind of thing???) I assume people don't use real turkey basters?

noor9587 · 09/03/2018 00:23

Wow I feel so much better because people are actually suggesting something.. he can't come back whenever. it's a job where he's 6 weeks working and 2 weeks off but for after April he can't have a holiday because of the hours he requires to do.. can I still take the period delay tablet if I got my period or after? Is there anything I can take that can make ovulation happen later? The reason I suppose I'm pressured is because I've never wanted a big age gap between my kids. Plus we really want to grow our family

what's OPs plans for the future and the way she's going to parent got to do with anything?

noor9587 · 09/03/2018 01:31

I've actually managed to raise my child all alone without him since he has a job that requires him to be doing layovers and being away most of the time.. so I decided since I have my support system over here I will be at my comfort. Being said I have tried going there but he would mostly miss my fertile window as he would be away from home too (for days) I ordered some of the tablets to delay my period but I'm not sure if I can consume them a day before my period. My doctor only refused to give me them because she told me she don't think it'll delay my ovulation too.

I've taken those tablets the day before my period, as I recall I had some spotting the next day but then nothing else, then 3 days after I stopped the pills I had my proper period. It's worth a shot Smile

PineconeK · 09/03/2018 07:11

I'd forget about period-delaying tablets (Norethisterone), this is a disused oral contaceptive. So they work by tricking the body to not release an egg, and the 'period' at the end is a withdrawal bleed. Not what you want!

I think the artifical insemination route might be worth exploring. Otherwise, just pour some Wine, light some candles and roll those dice. Good luck xx

MissWimpyDimple · 09/03/2018 07:30

No way should you take them.

They are a very strong contraceptive! This won't help your cause in the slightest.

Stephisaur · 09/03/2018 08:37

I wouldn't use the norethisterone. I've used it to delay my periods before, but it works like a contraceptive (some people are prescribed it as one) and the period you get isn't a true period as PP have said.

I agree that artificial insemination might be worth researching, although I know it's not exactly what you had hoped for.

noor9587 · 09/03/2018 10:15

I was just checking it out and it is expensive! Otherwise it would of been a good idea.. does the delaying period not allow you to ovulate? Because I was thinking if I delayed my period for about 10 days, my ovulation will be pushed back too for when he's here

Taking the period delaying pill will just mess your cycles and ovulation completely

I didn't have a period for 4 months after taking it on holiday.

villamariavintrapp · 09/03/2018 11:14

Taking the tablet will mess up your cycles it would be very unlikely just to delay ovulation by 10 days. If he works 6 weeks then has 2 off can't he come back in those 2 weeks, or you go and visit him there?

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 09/03/2018 11:43

As everyone else has said; you can't use a period delay pill. It will move your period but it will also mess up your ovulation - it doesn't nicely push it all back, unfortunately.

Is freezing his sperm an idea?
