First response/early pregnancy tests

Hi all,

I'm 32,TTC #1, third cycle. Just wondering what everyone's experiences are with early pregnancy tests like first response, clear blue, cassanovums? Are they worth the money? Have many people had early bfps?

Thank you

FRER gets a good write-up on here, but I’m not convinced. With my last pregnancy, I got a glaring negative three days before I was due on, then a strong positive four days later (on the day my period was actually late). The problem with testing early is that if the test comes up negative, you don’t know whether it’s a real negative or whether you’ve just jumped the gun. So you don’t really gain anything. Some people might get an early positive but there’s really no guarantee.

jitterbug5 · 08/03/2018 11:17

Just this morning I got the faintest line on a cheapie, took a FRER not even with FMU and got a clear positive! AF isn't due until tomorrow. So IMO, very impressed!

usernotfound0000 · 08/03/2018 12:35

I was using them and didn't get even a hint of a line, I saw my first line after AF should have arrived.

anotherchangetomyname · 08/03/2018 14:57

Stay away from clear blue. They are awful.

Internet cheapies are good if you want to test before you're due.

Jamboree85 · 08/03/2018 18:43

Thank you ladies I just went and bought frer, putting them in my bathroom and realised I am possibly getting a bit obsessed. Thank goodness my partner and I have separate bathrooms or he'd think I'm crazy. Please tell me this is ok?! . . . I'm 6 days pre AF tomorrow so not much longer to wait

The thing about early tests is that they will only give you an early result if the egg implants early enough. If you have implantation at day 12 with a 14 day luteal phase, you just can't get the 5 day early positive as you aren't actually pregnant at that point.

It's about 3 days from implantation to having enough HcG to get a positive 10 miu HPT, so a negative doesn't mean you won't get pregnant that cycle. It just means implantation hasn't taken place / took place only a day or so ago so you've not enough HcG in your system to get the positive test.

I've been lucky and had early implantation with both of my pregnancies, so got positives at 9-10DPO, but it really is best to wait until you're late (I'm way too impatient for that! 😂)

9 dpo and bfn, I feel like I'm wishing my life away until the next fmu.

Hello girls! I am new here and would like to join your discussion... I feel more at ease knowing there are other ladies over there testing early!! I tested with Boots early pregnancy yesterday, negative results but I have a very short cycle (21-22 days) so it may be too early...
I tested because I feel some symptoms like: chest burn feeling, nausea, funny taste, few headaches and mild cramping. I really hope it is the one as we’ve been trying lately.
Anyone experiencing the same??
Please I want to feel more at ease... the waiting game is exhausting me Blush xx

Jamboree85 · 09/03/2018 11:38

@Rose900 how many days dpo are you? I have swollen, sore boobs, cramps, constipation, headache, fatigue, back ache, had a couple of days of dizzy spells. I'm trying to tell myself this is all PMS. I've never had a longer 2 weeks in my life.

Rose900 · 09/03/2018 12:40

Jamboree85 I couldn’t track my ovulation, but I am only 3 days before my period is due. I am feeling like you so impatient, and thinking my symptoms are only premestrual signs....
How do you calculate your ovulation day? I am 21 days cycle and I still don’t get how to do it and buying the tests seem to be expensive. xx

Jamboree85 · 09/03/2018 13:20

@Rose900

I have very long, irregular cycles so have been using opk from Amazon, it's less than £6 and you get a months worth of tests and 5 upt's. i wouldn't have a clue where I was without them! I also use an app called Flo, there are a ton of apps but I really like this one.

Just got some reassurance watching YouTube - lots of bfns on early tests at 8dpo which developed later. Trying to keep a cool head AND still be optimistic is proving difficult!

I agree with you! So difficult... thank you for your advise I may buy them online then, on stores they are so expensive to buy each month. Keep us updated please x

howthelightgetsin · 09/03/2018 13:47

I got the squintiest squinter on an internet cheapie this morning... soooo tempted to do a FRER now but I know that it will only disappoint me and I need to wait for tomorrow morning.

NoWordForFluffy · 09/03/2018 17:21

I got a positive FRER the day I got an eye-breaking squinter on an IC!

Jamboree85 · 10/03/2018 08:46

Another BFN at 10 dpo this morning. I was so convinced I was pregnant I feel a bit silly now, even though I know it's early. I'll keep testing until AF. Last night DH asked how much I'm spending I on tests 🙈

anotherchangetomyname · 10/03/2018 08:56

10dpo is very early. I didn't get a line until my period was due, which was 4 days after implantation.

Jamboree85 · 10/03/2018 12:09

@anotherchangetomyname ahh thank you. I need to stop reading stories/watching videos of bfps at 6dpo!!

TheGruffalosArse · 10/03/2018 12:30

I got a positive with FRER at 10 dpo. They're so sensitive that I had the smallest squinter with FMU around 7am that I thought I was seeing things. Tested again at 11am and there was a line bold as brass. Took 4 days to then get a positive on a digi. Don't waste money on cheap tests because they aren't sensitive and just drive you mad.

I also had super strong ovulation tests from 4 dpo - 7 dpo which made me think I was in for a positive that month. I heard similar from a few women in my ante natal group too.

The result of these lines turns one soon Grin

Jamboree85 · 10/03/2018 13:13

I think I'll just try to avoid early testing. I thought it'd be more reassuring but i have found it quite stressful and literally wishing my days away. At least I know what's best for my to do next cycle

mintchick · 10/03/2018 14:25

FRERs are the best ones in my opinion! I went through loads and even when I got my BFP I stupidly kept on testing as I couldn't actually believe it and watched as the line got darker. I got a clear BFP at 9dpo with a FRER.... It turned out to be twins!

First response/early pregnancy tests
mintchick · 10/03/2018 14:26

Top One is 9dpo. Second is 10dpo and bottom one is 11dpo!

NoWordForFluffy · 10/03/2018 14:40

Nobody gets a BFP at 6DPO; it's simply not possible. They're just wrong about dates. Implantation happens from 6-12DPO and an HPT will show positive 3-4 days after implantation.

rosieposies · 10/03/2018 14:43

@mintchick Is it possible that twins means the hcg is higher and therefor you get a positive sooner? (trying to convince myself i'm not out after a BFN at 10dpo)

mintchick · 10/03/2018 14:51

@rosieposies I don't think it always means multiple pregnancy but did in my case! I don't think you're out at 10dpo either 😊
