Saliva ferning - anyone had much success charting this?

I thought I might try to see if saliva ferning was any more of an accurate indicator of ovulation. Ive bought one of those little lipstick sized micro-viewers but so far I haven't noticed a thing. I'm almost sure that I am ovulating, cm etc indicates that I am plus I get pretty achy and spotty at that time too, however I still haven't seen any ferning. I'm trying to check it on the mornings when I wake up.
Does anyone have any more experience with this approach? Am I doing it wrong?

I tried it and was careful not to eat/drink for a while before checking but never had much luck with it. I found LH strips and temping a lot easier!

thanks NoseringGirl, I'm kind of relieved I wasn't the only one! I thought it might just be my awful eyesight too!!
