Frequent DTD and UTIs

Myself and the DH are planning on following the SMEP this month. However, since we started TTC last June I have been prone to very bad UTIs. They cripple me and I have to take two or three days off work each time along with a week of antibiotics. They seem to be connected with DTD. If we do it two days in a row or every second day I get one two or three days later, which obviously makes following the SMEP daunting.

So far I have taken D Mannose after sex, along with peeing after the act, and it has staved them off but I have also been only DTD once a week or so. Has anyone come across the same problem and found a solution (bar long term antibiotics)?

I had this problem and the only thing that worked for me was taking a low dose of antibiotics every time I had intercourse (this is as effective as taking each night) it totally sucks and ruins the fun for sure!!x

Have you tried different positions? I know that (TMI warning) doggy style makes me much more prone to a UTI than doing it some other ways. Have you noticed any correlation?

Otherwise, make sure you're both super clean down there so there's no risk of bacteria being transferred from the bum region and maybe make sure it's not too vigorous? Also, have you considered getting your DP 'there' in other ways and then him just entering at the end to give your poor bits a rest?

I sympathise. I used to get quite bad UTIs with frequent sex and they are awful. I peed myself on a bus once Blush

Have you been peeing straight after? I find if I don't do it within 10 mins or so then I'm guaranteed to be downing the cranberry juice for the next few days.

I guess you don't want to be going too soon though in case the swimmers succumb to gravity Grin

Also I don't think I'd be doing SMEP in your position. I'd rather use OPKs or chart and find out my actual fertile days so you aren't having sex on non-fertile days and getting a UTI which makes you less able to have sex on your actual fertile days.

Hi, hope I can help here. I had the same problem for about 2 years, constantly on and off antibiotics for UTIs. I found a review that said about triple strength cranberry tablets being a good way to stop them. I have been taking these now for well over a year and so far no UTI!
I would definitely recommend them 😊

Ye with you saying it now I think there may be a correlation between positions and the UTIs. We may have to change things around. I have made sure since my last one that things are all clean beforehand but its such a mood killer doing so much prep before DTD to make sure I dont get one. No spontaneity anymore Sad Sad

sophi22 do you find it works even when you frequently DTD? I have managed to avoid one since November (I had three between July and November) by taking D Mannose but we only DTD every 6 or 7 days since then.

@SqidgeBum yes I am currently TTC so DTD lots... so far no issues! 😊

Oh wow! Thank you for the tip Smile
