+ve opk? Should I take a preg test?

I need some advice from those of you more familiar with opks. I started using the clearblue digital opks this month (the ones that only show peak or not peak, they don’t have a flashing smiley).

Anyway, I am 12dpo and have very sore boobs. I heard that opks can also detect pregnancy hormones. I did one, it showed a blank circle. I took it out and saw a faint line but it wouldn’t show in photos. A couple of hours later it was a little darker (pictured).

Do you think it’s worth taking a pregnancy test tomorrow morning? I’m due to go to a wedding tomorrow and want to know whether I can drink (if I don’t people will keep asking if I’m pregnant and I really cba with that when ttc!)

A faint line on an OPK is negative, sorry.

I would take a pregnancy test anyway, but might be a bit early yet!

You can use OPKs as pregnancy test, BUT there is a caveat, which is the test line has be as dark as or darker than the control line, feint lines don't count I'm afraid, Luteinizing hormone is present in varying amounts throughout a womans cycle, and 99.9% of women will always "see something" with OPKs no matter what day of the cycle they use them. If you really want to be sure I'd go and buy a First Response...good luck!

I’m not familiar with how opks work. I wonder whether given that I am 12dpo and don’t have ovulation hormones that it could be picking up pregnancy hormones? Or maybe there is a small level of ovulation hormone all cycle? Again, not really familiar with how they work, just started using thm and have just been looking for smiley/no smiley

Opk's can give false positives, google it. That's why they aren't sold as pregnancy tests.

I googled it for my friend last year who was convinced she was pregnant. She wasn't.

Thanks that is very informative! Yes it is quite faint. In the run up to ovulation I did have quite a few fully blank ones.

I think I’ll test in the morning for my own peace of mine, but I only have a Tesco cheapy one and no time to run out for a frer

If you're using OPKs as a pregnancy test, feint lines are negative I'm afraid, (unlike pregnancy tests) as I said above LH hormone circulates in a womans system throughout her cycle in varying amounts, the test line has to be very dark to be a positive... and to be honest I wouldn't bother using OPKs as a pregnancy test, just go and get the real McCoy! There used to be a really good website called pee on a stick.com, not sure if it's still around? It's a very informative one

Ah I did a bit of googling and I think at 12dpo the line would be stronger now if I was of. I think I will test in the morning I anyway to be on the safe side with drinking. That opk was taken mid afternoon, so fmu might make a difference

Tbh I wasn’t planning to use them instead of pregnancy tests, but I didn’t want to waste the only 2 pregnancy tests I have and I have quite a few opks in the house

Any news?

I took a pregnancy test and another opk first thing yesterday. Nothing on the pregnancy test (cheap Tesco one) and a similar faint line on the opk so I assume it’s not my month as af is due tomorrow. I checked the pregnancy test this morning and there’s a faint line but I’m pretty sure it’s just an evap line. It’s a blue dye test.

So had a few drinks at the wedding. Fx for next month

I used an OPK at 12dpo and it looked like this so I went and bought a pregnancy test which came back positive.

@queen yeah neither of mine have been that dark. I think it’s must be a low level of LH.
