Irregular cycles and spotting TTC

Hi all,

Something has been playing on my mind so I thought I would ask to see if anyone is in a similar situation.

Side started TTC 8 months ago, my cycle has been completely out of whack. Up to then I was a fairly consistent 28 day cycle with very few PMS symptoms. From the first month of TTC I have varied from 28 to as long as a 36 day cycle (which hassled to a lot of false hope with late AFs), I have dark brown spotting and slight cramping from 5 days before AF, and my symptoms are all over the place each month. I have even been prone to UTIs and bladder spasms from the first TTC month too.

Has anyone else had the same situation? What did your doc say? I haven't gone to mine yet, been putting it down to hormones or stress of TTC.

Hey! I also have been suffering with mid-cycle spotting until AF arrives. I’m fairly sure it’s hormonal- no irrregular bleeding in the first half of my cycle, but some spotting about 5 DPO the last couple of months.
I did visit the doc and I’m having the 21 days bloods done to check my progesterone levels and also day 2/3 bloods. She’s also sending me for a scan.
To be honest, I’m hoping it just sorts itself out, although I’m half expecting to see it again this month.
There’s nothing like TTC to throw your cycle off! Xx

Ye I am thinking of heading to the doc and trying to get them to do something. I do find when I go with AF related issues they tell me it 'happens to many women' and ask if I am stressed. I am a teacher, I am always stressed. They then blame the stress. Might just be more forceful next time.

Have a read of this:

nicolejardim.com/help-why-am-i-spotting/

I had spotting in the past but upping my magnesium with a supplement and lots of leafy greens has meant it hasn’t come back yet so far!

Thanks for the advice Karigan- I’ll definitely give that a try if it comes back this cycle.

I’m also a teacher Sqidgebum- I think it’s permanently fairly stressful, so if it was going to affect my cycles I think it would have done so before now. I hope you get sorted. Go to your gp. You could always talk about physiological impact- I feel it does have an impact on the physical relationship with your partner when you’re spotting or bleeding for half of the month! Xx

RD15 · 17/02/2018 15:54

Sorry I meant psychological impact xx

SqidgeBum · 17/02/2018 18:28

Oh ye massive impact. Not a great thing to worry about then TTC and maintain a good physical relationship. It has had quite a big psychological impact on me and on us as a pair. I will try the leafy greens, get some more iron into me, and go to the doc to see what they suggest.

I’ll let you know how I get on and if I get to the bottom of mine. Good luck 😊 xx
