Assuming you have a regular 28-ish day cycle, I would start to use opks from about cd9.

It's best not to use fmu, test between 2pm-5pm although I often tested twice a day (at midday and about 5pm).

Track bbt and cm as well if you can, as it's possible to have a surge on an opk but not actually ovulate; only bbt can confirm ovulation.

Keep testing until the signs say you've ovulated (average is cd14 but varies from woman to woman).

Buy amazon cheapies. If you have a fairly regular cycle (28 days-ish) start using them from about cd8. You will get some kind of line on them all through your cycle. The test line needs to be as dark or darker than the control line to be positive. When you get your first positive, you usually ovulate between 12-24 hours later
