Hi,

I came off the pill around Xmas. I've had the withdrawal bleed and now pretty sure I'm on normal cycles but last around 36 days.
I started using ovulation testers last month and they showed I was ovulating literally right after AF.
I never got any other ovulation symptoms until today.... when AF finished yesterday.
When I've been reading up on this everyone says you can ovulate early if you have a short cycle. But.... I don't have a short cycle, quite the opposite!
I can't find anything explaining this so I'm quite confused and a little concerned tbh!

If anyone can shed any light I'd be very grateful 😀

You are getting positive opks the day after af and not at all the rest of your cycle? Your LP is around 31 days? Because that would be very, very unusual.

Karigan1 · 15/02/2018 15:28

Two questions:

  1. how old are you as ladies of a certain age do have difficulties with the opks as they have LH in their bodies anyway

  2. when you say they are showing ovulation is it clear blue with a smiley face or sticks with lines? If the latter it needs to be adark line not just any line.

Bubblegum89 · 15/02/2018 15:56

Are the lines on your opk as dark as one another? You will always get a second line of some description (at least most people will) all the way through your cycle. They’re only positive when the test line is as dark or darker than the control line. Last cycle I randomly did an opk on cd5 and it was almost positive but I didn’t ovulate until cd14 so it’s not uncommon to get slightly darker lines just before and straight after af

What Bubblegum said, but I use cheap ovulation sticks from Amazon, they only pick up LH after I ovulate.

Hi,

Thanks for your responses.

I'm 32 and have been on contraception most of the time. When I haven't been on it I've always had up and down AT so was wondering if this is why?

I have been using the cheaper sticks from Amazon. Is it worth splashing out on Clear blue?
The line wasn't as dark as the control line so I was thinking it was a negative. But the line was there the next day then completely went and never returned. This is what confused me. I'm really worried I never ovulate!

I wonder if you aren’t on proper cycles yet and this is your body gearing up again. I came off the pill in November and only just had the first proper cycle.

I just like cb as the smiley face leaves no guesswork.

Bubblegum89 · 15/02/2018 17:16

Mine has done that before earlier on in my cycle. A line appears and then the next day is gone. It’s best to stop doing opks so early and start them on day 8 of your cycle and track your LH for a week or so. The opk is always negative unless the test line is as dark or darker than the control line, it’s why it’s recommended not to start using them too early on as it just makes things confusing

Louise5263 · 19/02/2018 16:15

Hi,

Thanks for your replies. All this is so confusing, who knew it'd be so technical lol!
I've bought some better opks and I've started tracking my bbt.
This is confusing too as everywhere I read, it says bbt will drop just before ovulation and then rise. Mine dropped last week and is now rising.
So hard to be patient and chart everything properly lol x

Is would start temping if I were you. That way you know when you’ve ovulated.
I ovulate right after my period but I have short cycles so it makes sense.
OPKs are not for a lot of people. I hate them. Never had a even half way positive even though I have a toddler (!), I think I just have a quick surge. Other people get almost positives loads during their cycle. If you temp, you’ll know.

howthelightgetsin · 19/02/2018 20:32

And not everyone’s BBT drops the day before ovulation. How you react is quite personal but there’s usually a clear line that you never go above pre-ovulation and never go below post-ovulation.
