Advice needed on low progesterone levels and short luteal phase

Hi. I've just had initial blood tests for secondary infertility which showed my progesterone levels to be low and I have a short luteal phase between 6 - 8 days. My gp has referred me to the gynae who I get to see in 6 weeks time. Gp mentioned clomid to help regulate my cycles as I'm ovulating about day 18 of a 25/26 day cycle. Has anybody any success stories of conceiving after using clomid or anyone else been through this and had success using something else to lengthen luteal phase? I need some positive stories to cheer me up!

Buttercupbabe......I naturally OV on CD18 or 19 of a 27/28 day cycle.
I conceived my ds after taking clomid for several cycles and then stopping so I guess it did regulate my LP....however...I have taken it again for another four months this time without success.

Twiglett helped me HUGELY with short LP advice when I came searching Feb last year.

Vitamin B6 is really meant to help in larger doses than normal but you will need to search her (or other experts) out as I can't rememeber.
I am currently doing IUI with a hcg injection to trick my body into thinking it's pg and so put off AF for longer.

Thanks coggy. I've been on the B6 for about 6 weeks and it's made no diff yet - I'm thinking clomid might have to be the way forward. Great that it worked for you getting ds - fingers crossed it works again.

I understand that the B6 can take A LONG time to work....several months.
I wish I had tried it earlier. I started and got put off that it didn't work more-or-less straight away and then by the time I got my backside in gear and found out it could take 4 - 6 months I was already on the waiting list to have the IUI injections and didn't want to mix different 'things'.

Thats how I feel - worried about mixing clomid and b6. Are you nhs or private? My concern is once i see the gynae will it take ages for him to prescribe treatment? My gp is getting me to have lh fsh and testosterone(!?) levels checked on cd3 before I go to see gynae - will he be able to make a decision based on the reults of these do you think? I mean if he decides clomid is he likely to prescribe it after my first appointment? Sorry for all the questions but eager to know

I'm nhs....don't rememeber evr having a CD3 test but may have done....I was totally ignorant a few years ago (and before MN)....I just took what they said and did it......now I ask questions!!!!!!

I was referred to the cons. from my GP and at the first visit they perscribed clomid.
That was standard...nothing to do with tests/ short LP as I didn't know about it then....maybe it changed after I had DS....I'm not sure...but the clomid obviously did the trick one way or another.

They told me that they used clomid for peopel who had 'unexplained infertility' and that it often worked.
We were basically taking the clomid whilst being on a 12-month waiting list for IUI.

All areas of the country seem to be TOTALLY different in the way that they do these things.

Has you LP only just been diagnosed by these recent bloods or did you have SLP before your first pg?
How long have you been ttc for this time?

We decided to try for a baby just after we got married. Second month got bfp! Just assumed things would be as easy for number 2. We've only been trying since christmas but because I started using ov sticks and temping and at the same time joined ttc 2 thread on mn realised early on tha my cycle hadn't returned to what it was before.
My turn to be nosey (!) how old is ds and how long have you been ttc this time? My ds is 22 months.

My DS should now be 23 months...sadly he was stllborn because of a knot in his cord when he dropped down to be born.

We tried for nearly five years for him and we've been trying now for 22 months pretty much.

It's a l-o-n-g old journey for us I'm afraid!!

Coggy I am so so sorry. What a dreadful thing to go through - I don't know what to say. I really hope the treatment you are having at the moment is successful soon. Thanks for your advice

I'm sure that we will get there again sometime....it'd just be nice to know for sure eh??!!
