Opk help

Hi all. First post here. Ttc #1. Currently on cd49. Had some opks for a while but haven't bothered to use them. Today I tried one for the first time and got a positive reading. Could this be accurate? Is it possible to ovulate so late in a cycle? As you can see I am new to all of this. Don't want to get my hopes up. Was starting to worry though that something was up and not functioning properly. Thanks in advance.

How long is your normal cycle?

Katjolo · 28/01/2018 20:36

This is the first cycle (second if including withdrawal bleed after coming off the pill). Both appear to be six weeks on average at the moment.

I have irregular cycles and ovulated on CD29 in my last pregnancy so it's possible.
Positive OPKs can also happen when you're pregnant so might be worth testing?

Chocolateyescakeyes · 28/01/2018 20:43

I thought that on average, you ovulate 14 days before your period. But I'm no expert! When you say positive, was it as dark or darker than the control line? Even a faint to decent line is still considered negative - in the brand I used anyway.

Katjolo · 28/01/2018 20:47

Hi yes. Definitely darker than the control line.

@NoseringGirl thanks for the advice. Took a pg test about two weeks ago and got a negative. Didn't want to get addicted to testing (as I had done three previously in the same cycle). Could test again though. Thanks

I'm a complete testing addict so probably not the best person to advise on that! Blush
It could be that your body is just taking a while to regulate itself after birth control. Also, you can get LH surges and not ovulate. It's just a sign that your body is gearing up to ovulate. Do you chart your BBT? That tends to be a better way to know if you're ovulating.

No I don't track temp yet but may start too soon. Tempted to try a of test again this week.
