Giving blood in the 2ww

Would you?

Due to ovulate on Friday/Saturday, have blood donation booked in for Monday.

I'm thinking it will be fine as wouldn't have even implanted by then?

I've wondered this. They do ask you whether there's a chance you might be pregnant in the pre-donation interviews, but I don't know what they say if you answer yes! I've tried looking at their website to find info on this but I can't see any.

Perhaps ring them up?

Just to say, my acupuncturist was alarmed when I mentioned that I used to give blood and told me not to while ttc. Don't know why but might be worth googling it? X

I probably wouldn't either to be honest. Probably makes no difference but since nutrient rich blood (particularly glycogen) is needed for implantation to occur I wouldn't want to dilute any essentials.

I was wondering about this in my last 2WW. I had an appointment booked for 10dpo so I sent them an email asking what the advice was, as the website just says "not while pregnant".

They replied saying that the current guidelines were:

"Donors trying to conceive naturally can donate provided that they have not missed a period. Taking folic acid or other vitamin and mineral preparations is not a problem."

As it happened, I got a positive test early that morning so cancelled the appointment anyway. I might not have missed a period, but I definitely didn't want to risk it in very early pregnancy. If I had been 2/3 dpo like you, I probably would have kept my appointment.

But I would say, if it's something you're going to worry about, even if it's considered safe, then cancel it to keep your mind at rest? I know giving blood is an amazing thing to do and they need supplies, but if you're going to spend the whole 2WW worrying you've ruined your chances then it's not worth the stress.

Pre bfp then yes, if I'd missed a period, then no.

I've wouldn't I've just got my BFP and had to cancel my blood donation appointment tomorrow
