How easy is temping?

So I was reading the “take charge of your fertility” book earlier this month but have found quite difficult as I wake up different times at night to go bathroom so then not sure accurate temp. Also tried checking positioning of cervix but found hard to distinguish. I used clearblue ovulation kit it showed me being peak and yet I wasn’t egg white mucus ( sorry for tmi!).

Ive got the notes but gave up on first attempt and I’d like to try again. Am I just making it more complicated then it isn’t?

I often wake up at various times during the night to go to the toilet and it doesn't seem to make much difference to my temps unless it is in within about an hour or so of my alarm going off. My charts always show ovulation very clearly in line with my positive opks.

I wake up during the night and it all depends on how much sleep you got before and how much you will get before getting up (min 3 hours they say). It depends on how much it affects your temps. It really is something you can't tell without trying out. However, as you are TTC why not just give it a go? It took me a couple of cycles but you get used to it quickly and I loved it, I learned so much and every day was exited to see what my temps would do that day.

Thanks, I’ve got a c degree reader. Do I just take my temp whenever I wake up providing 3hr sleep?

If you're temping in 'C make sure your body basal thermometer reads two decimals. And then try stay roughly around the same time. I have the time my alarm goes off for work during the week, most of the time I wake up an hour before or so, I temp then. Then at weekends I wake up around the same time and would temp then turn around and go back to sleep. See how it works for you. There's an app called kindara which is amazing. You can share your chart (I would only do this later on in the cycle because you can only share once per chart so want as much information as possible) and you can ask questions. Everybody is really helpful and I learned so much about my own and other people's charts.

Sorry to jump on ops thread but please could I ask which thermometer to use? Do you take your temp orally? Thanks

Hi I find that I wake up in middle of night for bathroom and timing changes so then I go back bed in hope 3hr sleep as at times have trouble going back sleep. Then when I wake up temp. I’ve got a babymad two decimal c temp one which has metal tip. The silly thing makes noise and wakes hubby Hmm

My husband is a very light sleeper (he'd wake up from turning on the thermometer, giving the read and then turning off again...) and as I really wanted to make a go with temping I splashed out and bought the Wink which works with the kindara app. It's a Bluetooth thermometer which sends the temp directly to your phone so you don't need a light to read it, write it down etc.... it worked really well for me. Only used mine for 4 months so far as I fell pregnant first cycle TTC but will use again when baby is born and in TTA.

I used Babymad thermometer from EBay, £6ish I think.

OP, different people have different sensitivity to taking a temp at different times. It never made that much difference to me and I could always see the trends in the chart.

Congratulations Peanutty. Sounds like it did the trick

Thanks @Kitkat369 . I believe it was a combination of several things and a lot of luck also.

I temp, and normally sleep straight through so have no problems. A couple of cycles ago I went through a spell of waking up for a wee (don't know why - it's stopped now!) and I did notice that my temps were more 'peaky' - less regular, BUT I still have a distinct increase after ovulation, so still very useful.
