Talk to me about NK Cells

Hi..

Wondering if anyone can give me some experiences or advice?

Been TTC 2.5 years with no success, no miscarriages etc. Been tested for things, have poor natural ovulation so had loads of meds. No PCOS, definitely have Endometriosis.

I haven’t caught one single cold or flu / D&V bug for 2.5 years, which in one way is nice, but I’m concerned this may be an indicator of elevated NK cells. I’ve got an appointment with my consultant next week to have a catch up... a private hospital has refused to do the NK cell test without it being part of an IVF treatment plan ...

Anyone experienced the same thing or similar? What was the treatment?

Thank you

So sorry you're going through this. I don't have much advice I'm afraid but have also been trying over 2.5 years so wanted to bump as I'm starting to look into immunes testing too. I have done three failed IVF rounds (well 2 IVF fresh plus 1 FET) and all good embryos etc but didn't work. I seem to have a very over active immune system - allergic to pets, eczema, asthma etc and wonder if my body is killing off all the embryos. Hoping someone comes along with more advice.

Oh geeup - so so sorry to hear about your IVF cycles! Flowers
It does sound as though your immune system is really overactive... I haven’t got eczema or major allergies to anything, just an inability to catch colds and obviously the endo diagnosis.
I did a bit of reading last night about successful use of steroids (prednisolone in particular) in elevated NK cells - which are insanely cheap to prescribe, yet the NK cell test is like a minimum of £500 at most clinics... Hmm
The other thing is that some cycles post ovulation I do feel quite achy and flu-like, but it disappears within a day... like you say, potentially our bodies attacking any embryos or signs of conception! sighhh
I’m going to speak to my consultant in a few days so I’ll let you know what the verdict is, if any.. just if there’s any info you haven’t already got that may be useful for you.

That would be great yes please. Hope it's helpful for you and happy to chat as we go through this. I'm having an appointment in a month to talk through testing options.

That would be great geeup - be good to chat through it together as and when we get anywhere! 👍
