PCOS - preparing to conceive

We're getting married in a few months and have talked about starting a family after our honeymoon.

I have PCOS, aware that I may not be ovulating every month. I'd like to get myself in the best possible health/shape for when we're ready. I've bought the pcos book and going to adapt my diet to be lower carb and slowly cut down on caffeine coffeeaddict

Is there anything else I can be doing in preparation for conceiving/pregnancy? I know our friends with babies are sleep deprived so I'm going to make the most of our last year of lie-ins!

I've got PCOS and currently 12+2 with DC2. No advice really apart from diet and exercise as you say. Be kind to yourself knowing it may take longer. We were lucky as DD1 was 9months of TTC and DC2 was 8 months. Good luck! X

Start taking folic acid or pregnacare tablets now to get your body as ready as possible... and you could try charting if you really want to try and understand what your body is doing. Charting gets a bit obsessive and I wouldn't necessarily suggest it to everyone to start off with but if you like to feel in control and are a bit worried, it might be a way of tracking your ovulation. You'll need a body basal thermometer and you could download an app lile fertility friend to track it.

Take folic acid everyday while TTC, eat as healthy as you can for the most part and take regular exercise. I have PCOS and yesterday got a BFP with DC #2. Good luck!

Inofolic/ inositol supplements were recommended to me - been taking them for a few months. No BFP yet though! Good luck xx

Thanks everyone. Didn't think I needed to start folic acid till we start ttc. Will look up the other supplements recommended. Great to know you've had BFP with pcos.

Sorry, forgot to say good luck to those waiting for BFP. Good luck!

I read that chromium can help regulate cycles with PCOS - have no idea if it actually works but I started taking it to see if my cycles would come back as I hadn't had a period in 6 months (with a view to TTC at some point in the following year). I never got a period but I did get pregnant somewhat unexpectedly about 6 weeks later, so there might be some truth in it!
