21 day blood test results

Hi this month from CD 15-18 I had strong positive OPK. I had my bloods done on CD21 and they said it is 13 and did not ovulate.

I know this is too low to ovulate but how come I got my strong positive OPK?

I’m currently CD 24 and feeling really confused.
I’ve been TTC for 14 months now.

OPKs are useless in my experience, unless you have a perfect cycle. It's possible you had the LH surge that is detected by an OPK but it wasn't strong enough to make you ovulate, or there were no follicles to ovulate from.

I know it's frustrating but it's good they're moving things forward and finding out why you're struggling with TTC. I didn't ovulate at all either due to PCOS.

Day 21 means seven days after ov. You bloods weren't taken seven days after ov.

Positive opks only mean you had a surge of lh, which happens before ov but doesn't always mean you then went on to ovulate.

I'd highly recommend you track your bbt for a few cycles, which is a really pain but pretty effective in deterring date of ovulation.

Are your cycles regular?

26-27 days
But then I only have a 2 day period.

OPK’s don’t mean you ovulate, they just show that your body is preparing to do it - the only thing which can confirm Ovulation is a blood test. Anything above 30 shows Ovulation.

Can you ask for the tests to be repeated next month? It may have just been a month where your body didn’t ovulate when it normally does, it’s common to have cycles like that once in a while.

Yeah this is my third month of bloods tests Oct- 10.9
Nov - 53.3 ( extremely high )
Dec ( today's result ) 13.2

That maybe suggests that you only ovulate from one side. I’d ask for another set to see if there’s a definite pattern!

JoJoyorker · 05/01/2018 15:05

Did they say 50 was too high? I thought that was result. Are your cycles regular? Could it be you are missing the peak?

Smileyeyes68 · 05/01/2018 15:12

If you google Duofertility, it’s a monitor you wear 24 hrs a day that continually does BBT readings so it confirms when/if you’ve ovulated. When I had my day 21 bloods it was actually on d24 as I knew when I’d ovulated. The monitor isn’t cheap but they did a guarantee when I had one that if you weren’t pregnant in 12 months you got a refund. They also have a team of fertility experts you can contact for advice by phone or email. Might be worth looking at?

user1488903347 · 05/01/2018 15:13

Sorry what's the peak?

Yeah they are regular every 26-27days always have been ( I only bleed for around 2 days the just brown for a few days after )

So I think the progesterone starts to go up when you ovulate and peaks on the 7th day after ovulation and then decreases. so it could be that it shouldn't be done on day 21 if you don't have a 28 day cycle.

JoJoyorker · 05/01/2018 15:29

So if your cycle is 26 days you should have the blood test on day 19. A couple of days can make a massive difference. I had mine 2 days later this month and it was 20 higher than last month.

namechangedtoday15 · 05/01/2018 15:37

I also think OPKs are useless. I had to have Day 21 tests - in my area they automatically do them for 6 months because results can vary so much month to month- 6 months' results are much more indicative of an issue (if there is one). My GP also said the vast majority of women don't ovulate every month (even though we all think we do).

I also had short cycles (26 days) and had my tests on day 19.

I think I got over 20 on month 3 but months 1, 2, 4 and 5 were all in the low teens. Month 6 was 67 and I was pregnant with twins!

Good luck!

user1488903347 · 05/01/2018 15:44

People are saying that 21 was too early because I may of ovulated later but earlier makes sense as I have shorter cycles.

Twins that's amazing, little miracles😊

It's so difficult to know when you actually ovulate I find. It sounds like a couple of days earlier might be worth a try. Wow that's amazing congratulations! Mine have ranged from under 10 to in the 50s and this week 73 which seems high but the test was a couple of days later so might have caught the peak.

hoping2018 · 15/01/2018 13:47

If your cycle is 26 days you needs bloods on day 19 otherwise it's not accurate
