Are my temps low?

HellaBella0 · 04/01/2018 10:24

I haven’t been ttc for that long so not getting too worried yet however I am a little concerned that my temps seem to be on the low side, which I’ve Googled (yes I know I shouldn’t) and which suggests could indicate an issue.

The chart below seems to be pretty typical of the types of temps I see every month. Whenever I use the chart gallery on FF most people’s seem higher than mine, well most of the ones that show pregnancy anyway. Has anyone else had any experience of low temps? Do these look ok? Any advice gratefully received Smile

The temps in the image are too small to see on my computer... maybe that is why no one else has replied??

HoldTightPretendItsAPlan · 04/01/2018 12:30

Your temps are lower than mine, but I don't know if that's a problem.

Pre-ov my temps are usually 36.2-36.4 and post-ov they're 36.6 to 36.8.

HellaBella0 · 04/01/2018 12:46

Thanks for replying. Ive tried again but not sure if this will make it any clearer? My pre ov temps are around 36.0 to 36.20 and my post ov temps are around 34.0 to 36.0. So I’m getting a decent temp shift but just seems to be lower than most others on FF and the ones I see people post on here.

My bbt used to be 35.9 or something and I've been pregnant several times.

NimbleKnitter · 04/01/2018 12:51

My temps were generally below 36 in the follicular phase, and I'm currently pregnant.

It's not the temp that matters, but the fluctuations. The actual temperature will depend on the time you take it every day, whether your room is warm or cold etc.

It's the variations that matter, and yours seem ok

physicskate · 04/01/2018 13:07

There seems nothing unusual about your temps to me. Mine regularly are below 35.9 during the fp. It CAN be indicative of hypothryoidism with low temps, but this is not always the case.

See your doc if you've been ttc 12 months. This is worth a mention, but not many GPs are au fait with ttc, let alone endocronological issues like thyroid issues - this is what my (limited) experience suggests!

HellaBella0 · 04/01/2018 13:29

Thanks all helpful and reassuring 😊

Yours are higher than mine op. Xxx

surreygirl1987 · 04/01/2018 20:42

You are higher than mine OP but that may not be reassuring as I've not had a bfp yet! Mine drops down as low as 35.45 on occasion and I'll be honest, it has worries me a little. My GP didn't seem fussed but she did put me in for thyroid blood tests just in case. I found something called the Barnes Basal Test when researching it but not sure how convincing it is - lots of arguments against it too. Good luck! :)

HellaBella0 · 04/01/2018 22:51

@surreygirl1987 I’ve not heard of that, will have a google now!

Have you had your thyroid tests yet?

OP posts:
surreygirl1987 · 05/01/2018 11:20

@HellaBella yes I have - I had a blood test last week that came bavk reasonably nornal (though TSH is possibly borderline) and saw my GP again today - she is lovely and put my in for ANOTHER blood test which I had today to get a fuller picture as T4 should really be tested too. She has no answers so has referred me to a gyno so I'm pleased that she's at least taking my concerns seriously.

However your temps pre-ov are higher than mine so probably no need for concern. Hopefully I don't need to be concerned either but I do feel that being quite far below average temp requires some attention. My hands and feet are always freezing cold too - are yours? How long have you been ttc for?

Bearsonstairs · 05/01/2018 14:43

Hey OP, i always recorded pretty low temps through luteal phase. On the morning I got my bfp I’d just recorded 36.25! Was convinced it was pre-AF drop (had been averaging about 36.4-36.5) before that.

surreygirl1987 · 05/01/2018 16:32

@Bearsonstairs that's good to know! May I jump in and just ask what your pre ov temps looked like?

HellaBella0 · 05/01/2018 18:09

@surreygirl1987 yes my hands and feet are always cold and I spend most of winter with a hot water bottle permanently attached to me lol. Hoping that doesn’t mean anything other than I live in a drafty old house! Good luck with your remaining results, sounds like it’s hopefully nothing to worry about. Would be interested to know how you get on though?

@Bearsonstairs that’s really reassuring thanks. Just goes to show that temps can be useful but not to worry about individual ones too much. Also interested to know what your pre-ov temps were?

OP posts:
surreygirl1987 · 05/01/2018 22:42

@HellaBella ha with the hot water bottle on your hands you sound exactly like me! Okay I will let you know how I get on. Could you please let me know how you get on too? Would be reassuring for either of us I think if the other got a bfp despite the 'coldness' thing! Best of luck with it all! I'll post back on this thread if anything relavent to report that I think you might find useful or reassuring!

Bearsonstairs · 06/01/2018 09:09

Hi, my pre-of temps tended to be 36.0-36.3 so although I could see a post-o rise it was really small and sometimes would drop back. I also had short luteal phases so thought it might be related and was a bit concerned but after seven months got lucky!

Bearsonstairs · 06/01/2018 09:15

I’ve added my pregnancy chart in case useful - the bit before the bfp was pretty standard for me - nothing that looked noticeably different - other than actually getting to 12dpo without a period!

surreygirl1987 · 06/01/2018 19:16

@Bearsonstairs thanks so much for that. And congratulations! My pre ov temps are waaaay lower than yours but I'm going to plod along and see what happens :)

MrsO28 · 08/01/2018 06:32

This has me a bit worried, I didn’t know it could be too low.. pre ov my temps usually start with 35 (today 35.9) and peak around 36.6?

surreygirl1987 · 08/01/2018 18:38

I don't think any of us really know at the moment, though I know it CAN be a sign of hypothyroidism! Can anyone with super-low temps who gets a bfp post it on here to give the rest of us hope? :)

surreygirl1987 · 14/01/2018 12:13

How's everyone doing? I'm in the tww at the moment and making every effort possible to keep warm... even got an under desk foot warmer to use at work and am putting a hot water bottle on my feet while watching tv in the evenings! Don't know if ttc is slowly turning me into a crazy lady but it can't hurt, right?
But annoyed as my GP put me in for a second blood test which was supposed to include T4 but the results didn't have T4 on it which is irritating so am none the wiser re thyroid. And I've been doing lotss of 'coldness' research but found conflicting information - some women say they uad no trouble getting pg even with really low temps and other sources (e.g. a book called 98.6) has scared the bejeezus out of me... if I believe everything thst says, my temps put me on the brink of death!
I have, however, made the switch to vaginal tempting this month instead of oral and my temps are slightly higher which is making me freak out less...
Anyway, good luck everyone - and please do reply back if you have any updates! X

HellaBella0 · 14/01/2018 15:06

Hi @surreygirl1987, think we’re both over on the SMEP thread too! I’m ok thanks, currently cd20 and had positive opks yesterday and today so lots of BDing going on. My temp has been around 36.1 to 36.2 but today dropped to 35.9 so hoping it’s an ovulation dip which I’ve had a few months (although not all of them so can’t treat it as a definite sign).

I’ve been thinking about vaginal temping too, be interested to know how you get on?

OP posts:
surreygirl1987 · 14/01/2018 21:22

Oh yea I'm SMEP-ing!!

Well I THOUGHT I'd ovulated already but a surprise load of ewcm today suggests otherwise! Hoping for a massively increased temp tomorrow so I will keep you posted re how I get on temping vaginally... But so far my temps seem more stable (and less abnormally low) so that's good!
Sounds like we'll get to the 10dpo stage at similar times!

You must have a longer cycle though based on your current cd20? Fx for us both!

HellaBella0 · 14/01/2018 22:43

Yes @surreygirl1987 will be good to have a cycle buddy!! My last cycle was 29 days with ovulation on cd16 so not sure what’s going on with this one. Poor DH is pretty much worn out from all the SMEPing and a late ovulation!! Grin

polkadotpixie · 15/01/2018 04:45

When I was temping orally my temps were similar to yours: 36-36.3 pre-O & 37.4-36.7 post-O. Once I switched to vaginally they were much steadier overall and approx 36.2-36.5 pre-O and 36.6-37.0 post-O
