Should I just admit defeat?

Just looking for a little advice from those more experienced at ttc than me (only my second cycle).

Came off bc in May/June. Started tracking my cycles a few months later as gearing up to ttc. Last cycle was 30 days but the two prior were 36 days. So seems that cycles are still a little irregular.

I have been using clearblue advanced digital OPKs. Got my peak fertility CD18 and led to believe that you should ovulate 12-36 hours later (according to instructions).

I stupidly tested 9/10dpo (29th Dec) with a FRER and got a BFN. Guess it was to be expected given that I tested so early.

AF due anytime between 1st and 6th January based upon 30-36 day cycle. Not shown up as yet but have been feeling really tired, twinges to left side and needing to pee constantly.

Decided to use Acutest as only ones in local shop (wasn’t able to make it into town to buy a FRER). Being as impatient as I am I tested this evening and got another BFN.

Should I just accept that I’m not gonna get a BFP this month? Or do you think that a) I could have tested too early again and it might just be a longer cycle with AF not due until closer to the 6th or b) I have false result by not using fmu (I must have went to the toilet at least 3 times a few hours prior to taking the test!)

Thanks in advance as I’m just not sure if I’m clutching at straws now!

@bubblybrit. No! Don't admit defeat! Was it one of those Early Sign tests? I hate those! The pre tales ages to move across the stuck and the viewing window is too small. I think they are 25miu. I got my last positive in the summer from one of those but it was a day or two after I was due on and it was SO faint.

I know they are more expensive but I've decided to only use FRER this cycle. You sound like me with your cycle lengths (between 30-36) My last one was 35, so I'm going to assume this one is seeing as I'm not sure I've even ovulated yet on cd 19 lol.

Keep your fingers crossed! You're not out yet! X

@LookingAtTheStars89. I promised myself that I wouldn’t use anything other than a FRER and that I’d wait until I was confident that AF was late! Clearly all that went out the window when I seen the Acutest brand. Wish I had waited as it’s playing on my mind. Which I’m sure you can tell since I’m still wide awake at 1am. Been googling furiously to see if I’ve still got a chance of that BFP.

So thank you for your reply as I feel a bit better now 🙂

Think I am going to wait a while before testing again to try and ensure accuracy. My longest cycle has been 36 days so AF would arrive 6th/7th January at the latest. Might try and wait until w/c 8th January if AF hasn’t shown by then. Does that sound sensible to ensure accuracy of result?

Are your lines on opk still getting stronger?

Yeah I'm wide awake too. I should be in bed as I have the school run in 7 hours time lol but I can hear dh snoring up there, so I'm in no hurry! I'm also googling fertility related things lol.

It's probably best to wait until then, yeah. At least then you can be sure, although you're never really 100% sure until bloody flo shows up! What I would give to have a regular 28 day cycle! Or even better a 23 day one and then you would have hardly any time to wait lol. I don't know about you but my cycles feel like they last AGES.

The opk I got at 3pm was definitely the darkest I've had so far, I did one at 22.30 and that was slightly lighter. I also did one of my cb ones because I know the first test is always a blank circle so I didn't want to waste tomorrow's fmu on a blank - if that makes sense.

Yeah having longer cycles suck. The previous tww wasn’t as bad as I was working. However if off on annual leave (DH is working) so feel like I’ve got so much more time to ponder.

It’s the not knowing that’s killing me. If AF arrived then I’d definitely know that I was out and I could gear myself up for the next cycle. Just feel in limbo right now as last 2 tests have been negative but I don’t feel that I can trust them 100% yet!

Hopefully you get your positive result soon and then you can focus on dtd. Which is much more fun than the tww lol 🙂

As you probably know, dtd can become tedious when you have long cycles! For all I know, I could already be in my tww lol. We weren't planning on the every other day thing but it's ended up that way anyway lol.

I hope we both end up with bfp's this month!!

Lollipop30 · 03/01/2018 02:20

FWIW my cycles are 35ish days long and with all 3 I’ve never had a BFP before 20dpo

bubblybrit · 03/01/2018 09:35

@LookingAtTheStars89. Yeah think my DH liked the idea of dtd every other day initially but now reality has sunk in!! It would be great if we could both get our BFPs in January 🙂

@lollipop30. Oh that’s good to know. I’m really hopeful this month but the negative tests are really off putting. Not even the faintest of lines - literally nothing! Just need to wait it out until next week I guess.
