TTC with PCOS

I stopped taking the pill December 2014, we took a relaxed approach to TTC - if it happens, it happens... but it didn't. Scince stopping the pill my periods were irregular and as time went past months went by without having a period at all.

Fast forward to more recently, I had a period April 2017 then nothing until August 2017 and nothing scince then. After lots of blood tests, scans and back and forth to the DR scince the beginning of 2017, it was confirmed that I have PCOS & October 2017 dr suggested trying metformin, so I was happy to try and excited to get started.

2 weeks into taking the tablets I had heard everyones success stories and felt positive, some people saying it helped regulate their periods and others saying they were pregnant before they even had a chance to have their period!!

Here I am 13 weeks in to taking the tablets and still no period. I don't want to come across as impatient or ungrateful - the DR told me to try them for 6 months and if no luck to go back with a view of having my partner tested and perhaps being referred... I want to go back to the DR now, as it's not working and I have a feeling it's not going to.

Has anyone else taken metformin as recent? I understand theres other meds you can take with it that make it work better? I would be interested in hearing your stories...

Hi Pickle
I am on Metformin for PCOS and my cycles have really shortened. There is a PCOS thread on infertility if you are interested in joining (Thread 6 PCOS support), there are people with lots of experience on there. Some people have had a different medication to induce a period.
I would have thought they should be doing the tests then referring you to the fertility clinic as you have been trying over a year.

I have PCOS too and am on 1500mg metformin to help with my cycles. Haven’t noticed any improvement with it, currently on CD102. It’s so disheartening when others have such great results with it.

I was on metformin and also inofolic sachets, it really worked for me.

Soapychoc & Peaches, how long were you taking metformin before noticing any difference?

I was only taking one metformin instead of the 2 x500 I was supposed to be taking then I took the right dose & inofolic sachets for 6 weeks before my BFP. I've sadly had a mmc now though.

I had a bit of a wonky cycle with seemingly 2 periods within a couple of weeks when I first started the Metformin and then after that they massively shortened. How many a day are you on? I have just changed to the slow release ones due to side effects and started on a lower dose and built up and my last cycle was a bit longer than the last few. I would say my cycles were usually 62 days plus before and are now 30 something.

I am taking 3 x 500mg a day breakfast lunch and dinner. Started 1 then 2 and then up'ed it to 3. Side effects are bareable for me.
