21 day test-when?

Hello,

My GP has referred me to get my hormone levels tested.

I've already had a test on day 5 and am now meant to have a test on day 21.

My cycles are extremely irregular -between 28 and over 60 days. Obviously this means my 'day 21' test won't be on day 21.

The GP is checking for PCOS now. One of the big questions is whether I'm ovulating.

I've been using ovulation tests but it never comes up positive.

However I've been measuring my temp using an app. There do seem to be changes in temperature.

It looks like I possibly o listed last Tuesday or Wednesday but I'm not sure which day it was. So I'm not sure whether to go for my blood test tomorrow or on Wednesday Confused

Please could someone help me work it out? I'm new to all of this an I don't want to waste this opportunity-for all I know my next opportunity might not come along till march.

My temperatures were:
Sunday: 36.64
Monday: 36.53
Tuesday: 36.64
Wednesday: 36.67
Thursday: 36.85
Friday: 36.86
Saturday: 36.82

The app seems to be suggesting that ovulation might have been Tuesday. I can see why as there was a tiny increase of temperature but in my mind it just looks like a slight variation?

Whereas there was a huge increase of temperature from Wednesday to Thursday? I would have thought the more likely ovulation date (if there was one) would be Wednesday?

I'll try to attach a picture of the curve.

Please be gentle, I feel a bit silly not knowing this Blush and with it having been the holidays I can't really see a GP before I need to go for my test.

Thank you!

A 1 day difference will be fine. From your temps I reckon Wednesday too. Good luck

Hello, you sound like you are in the exact same boat as me... DR sent me for the same blood tests, and I asked the same question - with an irregular period how do you know when day 21 is?!? I just went on CD21, then went back for results which came back as not ovulating, then DR sent me on 2 more tests 1 week apart, which both came back not ovulating, and this was in August, still not had a period and have scince been for an internal scan which has confirmed that I have PCOS and I am now on week 13 of taking metformin.

It would be nice to hear that your journey ends up a bit simpler than mine but it's always a relief to talk to people going through the same things as you, so keep in touch & let me know how you get on.

You should still go on the actual CD21 even though this may not be 7 days post ovulation, as it would be in a regular cycle. That's what I did anyway. I didn't have regular periods at all so I had a short course of tablets to induce a bleed, then worked from there.

Bojangle, the GP said I should go seven days after ovulation. She then wants to speak to me. Did the pills regulate your cycle long term?

Grumpy, thank you for looking at my temperature. I'm glad you think one day might not make a difference. It's the way I was told it had to be seven days I was worried I could get it wrong.

Pickle, it's nice to hear of someone in the same boat. I always had irregular periods as a teenager and then started the pill. To be honest when I was younger I didn't really track properly so not sure I was aware quite how irregular they were. I think the pill then masked that.
Unlike you I'm very much at the beginning of the journey it feels. The GP did take me serious though and wanted to help which was nice.
Should the medication help you with ovulation?

I ended up having mine at 9 dpo because the GP couldn't offer an appointment for bloods on 6/7/8 ! But I was told 1 day either side of 7dpo should be ok. From my temps (I charted for months) I knew my progesterone doesn't tend to fall until 12/13dpo so I figured 9dpo would also be fine, & it was.

SprinklesAndCream · 02/01/2018 13:10

Thank you grumpy, that's very useful. I will go get my blood taken tomorrow. I'm lucky in that i can go to the hospital without an appointment.

Ah ok, that's a bit different from the advice I was given then, but my periods were very few and far between! In that case I wouldn't worry if you're a day or two out on when you think you've ovulated, the levels will be close enough to confirm if you have.

I have PCOS, but I knew this before really so these tests were to confirm I wasn't ovulating before referring me for fertility treatment. I was given clomid and then had IVF which worked on our frozen cycle and am currently 18 weeks pregnant. Who knows what my cycle will return to after that! I only had about 1 or 2 periods a year before.

Hope it works out for you OP!
