Morning after pill

Hi.
I had a baby 10 weeks ago and I have not had a period yet. We have been using condoms and I am booked In to get coil fitted but still another week and a bit.
Saturday night condom burst. I went yesterday and got morning after pill took it about 18 hours after. Took it about 5pm went out to celebrate the new year and had a few drinks. Not drank since before I was pregnant and it didn't go down well. Came home and was sick several times probably about 2am.
I know it says 3 hours on the leaflet but I'm freaking out a bit.
Also I don't know where I am in my cycle as not had a period. But I think I had ewcm past few days before. Not 100% sure it was though.
I've read map doesn't work if you have already ovulated I'm not sure if it is the case or if there is anything else I should do.
I'm also getting quite bad cramps not sure if it is the pill or the vodka last night.
Any advice please x

I think you'll be fine but if you're really worried maybe you should go and ask a pharmacist?

WazFlimFlam · 01/01/2018 10:53

You most likely have absorbed it, it can make you nauseous though it is hard to distinguish between that and a hangover. The cramps are probably from the morning after pill. It stops any fertilised egg that may have formed from implanting.

I think this is a bit insensitive to post on the conception board Envy

I think this is a bit insensitive to post on the conception board

I vigorously disagree, with this and all attempts to police the Conception and Pregnancy boards so that they are only "for" people who actively want to get pregnant/are happy to be pregnant.

Wanting to be pregnant myself didn't for one second make me feel that everybody should be, or make me so self-absorbed as not to recognise that for some people a pregnancy is devastating news, not positive.

The thread didn't make a secret of what it was about; move on and only read ttc threads if you can't cope with the idea that some people are actively trying NOT to get pregnant.

Thank you. And I'm new to the forum I seen this was a conception thread and didn't think you automatically needed to want conception to happen to post on here. Conception is conception regardless of how the person feels about it.
Having another baby just now would destroy me. My baby is only 10 weeks old and it's not been the easiest of journeys. I could not go through what I went through again to get my son into the world. I am very thankful for the 2 beautiful kids I have and I now feel my family is complete. On the other hand I could never terminate a pregnancy so I am just really anxious about it all.

@QueenAravisOfArchenland the whole point of the conception board is TTC there's a whole board dedicated to not getting pregnant called the family planning board Brew

mummyof288 · 01/01/2018 11:25

Who's point is that your own?
Don't see any written laws on it!
If it upsets you go read something else!

I think TTC and the conception boards isn’t the right place to post this. There are lots of women on these boards really suffering and reading about someone taking the morning after pill who has a lovely new baby could be a little upsetting for some. You could ask this to be moved to the making choices board were it would be more appropriate. Regarding your issue I think you’ll be completely fine but you could pop to see your GP/Chemist/NHS walk in centre for some reassurance. Hope it all goes well for you and congratulations for your new baby xxx

Yes, MAP is much much less effective after ovulation (because it contains a form of progesterone, something your corpus luteum is already making after ovulation).
Having a copper coil inserted can stop implantation but it may be too late - speak urgently to pharmacist and then, if necessary, out of hours doctor.

mummyof288 · 01/01/2018 11:54

I was not aware that conception meant you had to be actively trying to conceive.
As I said new to the app and this is not clear anywhere.

I’m guessing the cramping could be due to ovulation (or possibly from being sick!) but if you had ewcm a few days previously it could be ovulation. I’ve taken the MAP once before when I was a teenager and it didn’t give me any side effects but not sure if cramping could be one. If they are ov cramp, you should be fine but if you’re unsure, I would pop into the pharmacy tomorrow and ask them what’s the best thing to do.

Also, there is a family planning board on here where you might get more answers/people who have been in a similar situation :)

WazFlimFlam · 01/01/2018 12:12

Sorry you are having a hard time OP. There have been a number of threads recently about women who may have conceived shortly after giving birth so I'm surprised by this reaction.

There are plenty of people who are on here with a lovely squishy babies. Not everyone on here is trying to conceive their first.

Women trying to dictate that other women should hide the reality of their fertility from others is shaming and misogynistic. It's demanding a level of emotinal labour that simply isn't appropriate when the other woman is having a hard time too.

mummyof288 · 01/01/2018 13:03

Thank you. This has been a complete accident we are always very careful and I would normally be on a long term contraceptive when not ttc. I take this really seriously. As stated I am booked to get copper coil so was just using condoms until I can get this done.
I am scared that they say you are highly fertile after delivery and due to not knowing exactly where I am in my cycle I'm worried. It could of been ewcm but tbh after delivery things are not exactly the same as they used to be so it may still be getting back to normal after the birth so I'm not sure.
I done an opk I had from ttc and it wasn't positive but the 2nd line was there I don't think that really tells me much though apart from that I'm not going to ovulate in the next day or so but it doesn't tell me if I have already etc

WazFlimFlam I do agree with you but a little empathy for others is always a good thing

mummyof288 · 01/01/2018 14:45

Lilly billy i very much have empathy for others. There is a 6 year gap between my 2 because of fertility problems at the time and reacurrent mc. We all don't just get handed a baby and then go rub it in peoples faces which is not my intention at all. As I said I am new to the forum. There was no rules saying conception thread was for purely people who are trying to conceive. My post was about possible conception, which is what this thread is named. I didn't know that meant you had to actively be trying to conceive. I am genuinely sorry if people are having a hard time. Ttc was a horrible journey for me and I really hope you all get you bfp soon x

mummyof288 I’m sure you have of course! I hope you get your issue sorted out, you may get more help and advise from a different thread such as making choices xx
