Is a false positive likely... cramping?

Hi all

Not sure whether to believe a pregnancy test I took this evening. I will get a new test tomorrow to check again.

I have historically had irregular periods - I am currently on day 44 of cycle which prompted me to take a test as even for me that was starting to feel long!

Anyway reason I'm doubting it is because I have had cramps a LOT for a couple of weeks now so I thought I was getting my period all over Christmas. But reading here it sounds like having cramps in early pregnancy might be common?

Eek!!! Happy New Year!
Xx

A false positive isn't a thing. You can get evaporation lines but they're colourless. Cramps are a good thing :)

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 22:00

Hi, a false negative is common but a false positive is impossible unless the dye has smudged or ran which usually you can tell. The reason a false positive is so unlikely is because a pregnancy kit is essentially a science kit where the pregnancy hormone has to be present in your urine to activate the second line.

Happy New Year and congratulations Smile

Eek really...
I've uploaded a pic. I can't quite believe it though, I will go to the shop as soon as it opens tomorrow. Have you guys had cramps in your experience? It really does feel like period pain and has been going on for days.

Wouldn't have said that's false anything!!! Congrats!!

Tinselistacky · 31/12/2017 22:17

Standing joke in my house about cramping meaning af is imminent!! Cramping means bfp for me!! It's a good sign as long as no bleeding /real pain..
Congratulations!!

noplease · 31/12/2017 22:21

Yes I spent a week thinking my af was imminent as had the usual cramping etc I get before I'm due my period, decided to take a pregnancy test as still no show and bfp instead! 😁

agteacht · 31/12/2017 22:24

Oh my god. Not sure I can believe this really.
Thanks you guys... I will go buy some tests first thing. Different brands, digital etc!
And congrats noplease!

Thanks 😊this was a while ago she's 18 months now ha. I couldn't believe it at the time either, went and bought 2 digital tests later that day. Cramping is apparently a common symptom which I didn't know about!

agteacht · 31/12/2017 22:38

Oh in that case a huge double congrats!!

Cramps eh... who knew! it was a boots test, 'red to resist urge to google people's experiences of them 😂😂😂

That’s definitely a positive! I had cramping in early pregnancy, and with my First it went on for ages and I thought it was my body freaking out at having my first actual period having been on the pill for about 12 years. But my period never came so I ignored it. By the time I tested (still no period...) I was actually about 8 weeks pregnant and must have ovulated exactly 14 days after my last Pill.

Kate8989 · 31/12/2017 22:50

Bonzo77 did you have random spotting during the 8 weeks? X

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 22:58

Congratulations your pregnant and that's dark, my first one was lighter than that and ds is now 10 month. Try clear blue tomorrow to put your mind at rest (the one that tell she you how many weeks along and says pregnant instead of lines.)

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 22:59

you're

PasstheStarmix · 31/12/2017 22:59

agteacht · 31/12/2017 23:31

No spotting at all with that first pregnancy.

Mrstobe90 · 01/01/2018 01:57

That’s a very strong positive! You’re pregnant :)
I had cramping at the beginning of pregnancy and it made me nervous but it’s just your uterus changing and preparing for the baby.
Whenever I got cramps, I’d say it was the baby rearranging furniture lol
Congratulations and happy new year!

CuppaSarah · 01/01/2018 07:28

Congratulations! That's 100% positive. I'm nearly 5 weeks and have lots of cramps, it's totally normal. Flowers congratulations

agteacht · 01/01/2018 08:09

Thanks mrstobe90 and cuppasarah - and congrats Sarah when did you find out? Happy new year to you both!

Well I've done another test this morning, same test (boots), same result. Ever so slightly fainter line I think but almost identical really - already over-analyzing! 😂

So I guess yes I am but I wasn't expecting to be so I'm really shocked. 8 will buy a couple more when the shops open - I think clear blue and digital? - just to be sure to be sure...

Date of last period was 18 November so that's like 6 weeks ago... bloody hell! 😮😮😂😂👌
