Off contraception 3.5 years

Hi All,

I have been off contraception for 3.5 years and finally went to see the doctor who has sent we away to try for another 6 months before he will refer me on. I am 33 so am worried as the time passes. Is this normal for the doctor not to seem concerned?

No that's unusual. You should be having tests now then refer. Unless there's something you're not telling us like your partner lives abroad and you only have sex twice a year!

Other than being overweight no nothing....which I asked about and he said that he wasn't concerned about this being a factor either. Myself and my husband attended the appointment as we both had questions, so he met us both. I'm not sure if the doctor is just optimistic....or this is procedure now. He said he would happily refer me on in 6 months.

This is wrong. You have been trying for over 12 months and you are over 30, he should be referring you for tests now. Id go back if I were you. Can you see another go at you
If surgery?

No that's wrong. But you should check the IVF criteria for your area in terms of BMI in case you need to get on and lose the weight. I'm a GP - I investigate at one year of trying (6 months if over 35 or very irreg periods) and refer when the initial investigations are back. That's fairly standard.
