Lying down after sex

I’ve read lots of conflicting advice on this.
I usually like to go to the toilet straight after sex as I like to clean up but I’m not sure if that will hinder my chances of getting pregnant.
What are you ladies doing?

I tend to stay put for about 10 mins because I like that time with DH and my not so scientific logic is it gives the little swimmers less gravity to fight against to start with.

But once we're done, I nip to the bathroom and clean up etc.

I saw one thread on MN where someone used a mooncup to catch it all overnight. That made me feel a bit Confused

You should pee straight after sex. The liquid that comes out is semen, not sperm. Most of the sperm are ejaculated to where they need to be within seconds. My doctor said that unless you have sperm issues (slow sperm or low sperm count) then lying down is recommended. If you don’t need to stay still then don’t, it increases your risk of a UTI which aren’t fun. Peeing straight after sex won’t harm your chances of conceiving. Good luck!

Bubblegum, that is music to my ears. I had my first peak day today so I’m glad to hear that our efforts weren’t wasted!

Maisy many thanks for your comment too Flowers

You’re welcome :) some sperm do come out with semen but out of the 300 million or so in each ejaculation, it really doesn’t make a difference in normal sperm. Some women do it anyway as it helps put their mind at ease but it is just a myth and is only necessary when there are certain fertility issues. Lots of luck :)

Studies have shown that lying down for longer than it take to get your breath back makes no difference!

I always thought the mooncup thing was a bit weird but after 2.5 years decided I’d give anything (within reason) a go. I’m now 7 weeks pregnant after DTD just once but using the mooncup as I had to rush out somewhere and hate that wet knicker feel. It probably wasn’t the mooncup but you never know.

I had ivf and thought I would have to lie down after embryo transfer. Nope.. the embryos were put into my womb and I was up a minute later! As pp said, sperm goes to where it needs to be sooo quickly
