TTC but still breastfeeding

My DS is 10 months and still feeds every 2-3 hours

I will like to TTC another soon but I still haven’t got AF back yet!

When did you get your period back? I don’t really want to wean him off yet

Afraid I didn’t get my period I til I had completely stopped breastfeeding. It’s not the same for everyone though.

Every 2-3 hours is likely to be preventing ovulation as it’s still very frequent. Especially if you are feeding at night time.

Same as PP I'm afraid OP. I weaned DS1 at 30 months, conceived DS2 the next month! (Periods had returned a couple of months previously).

12 months, i was feeding at bedtime and during the night. I actually fell pregnant in my first cycle so never had a period between the 2 children.

Got my period back not long after starting back at work -so only feeding in morning/evening and overnight, and am now pregnant again after 3cycles.

Another here who had no period til I totally stopped bf, sorry OP! I tried cutting down feeds (with the intention of TTC) but no joy. I completely phased out bf at around 11 months, had 1 AF and got BFP just before DS turned 13 months. Good luck

Hi, I've just conceived number 2 but also had this dilemma!
I had my first period at 9 months. I was probably feeding 4-5 Times per day with only 1 feed overnight, about 4am. I might weaned at 10 months then fell pregnant. I'm still feeding now (13 months) although ready to stop...tandem feeding does not appeal to me!

Night weaning brought mine back. I continued to demand feed during the day.

I got pregnant after having unprotected sex once whilst breastfeeding. I was hardly hyperfertile either, it had taken 18 months to conceive the first time.

But my periods had come back at around 5 months, despite DD being a frequent feeder.

Periods returned just after DD turned 1 although we had been down to 2-3 feeds a day for a few months by that point. Conceived whilst giving 1 feed a day but she instantly naturally weaned - hormones must have made it taste funny!

Have you considered dropping the number of feeds they get?

14 months. DAD was a very frequent feeder, including every couple of hours overnight. Then she got a horrible virus with a very sore throat and barely fed for a couple of days. Two nights of no feeding, and two weeks later I got my first period.

That should say DD, obviously!

I got my periods back when my son was only 4 months old and they returned to their normal cycle pretty much straight away.

When my son was 2.5 years old, who I was still breast feeding, me and DH decided to TTC #2 but I despite two yearas of regular periods I still couldn't actually fall pregnant again until I stopped breast feeding #1.

My periods with DS2 returned when he was around 13-14 months.

DS2 was still breastfeeding when DS3 was conceived - DS2 was about 2.5yrs then, so not breastfeeding as often as a younger child would.

This is a dilemma for me. DS is 18 months and I feel too young to wean but at the same time I’d like to have a number 2. I don’t know what to do really.

Same dilemma here too, except DS is 5 months old. I'm very keen to start TTC as it took us a while last time - but I'm also worried about how it might affect my supply.

I got mine back at 4 months while still EBF, and was pregnant again two months later while still BF. We weren't exactly trying to prevent pregnancy but it was still a bit of a surprise as it had taken a year to conceive DC1.

DC1 self weaned at 9 months when I was 12 weeks pregnant, possibly because my supply was affected by the pregnancy or the taste changed or something. TBH I was quite glad as I found it very tiring being both breastfeeding and pregnant.

This thread really shows how different we all are.
