Pregnant whilst breastfeeding?

Has anyone conceived whilst breastfeeding? My baby is 6 months old and has just started solids, we have been ttc for the last 4 weeks. I haven’t had a period yet but have started to feel extremely sick in the morning for the last 4 days. Do you think it’s at all likely I could be pregnant?

How soon would it show up on a pregnancy test? (I know usually after missed period but I don’t know when that would have been!)

Breastfeeding is not a reliable form of contraception. So it’s entirely possible that you’re pregnant.

Yes, breastfeeding isn't reliable contraception especially at the age your child is and moving onto solids etc. I got pregnant again when my breastfed baby was 9 months old.
The only thing you can do is take a test, if your sickness is caused by pregnancy there should be enough hormone to show up by now.

Thank you, I should have said, I took a test 3 days ago and it was negative but the sickness has continued so I thought maybe it could be too soon to show up on a test. However- I guess that would mean also too soon to be feeling sick?!

I would have thought if the hormones were high enough to make you sick, they should be high enough to show on a test. You could try testing again in a few days as pregnancy hormones double every couple of days. You could well be/get pregnant but if you've had a negative test I would say it's more likely a bug

I would keep testing every couple of days until Christmas if you're wanting to drink. Same for new year.

Other than that/if you're not interested in drinking anyway, test once a week - if it isn't positive within 4 weeks, assume not pregnant and carry on as normal.

Thanks all, yes that’s what I thought r.e the hormones. I’ll sit and wait and try to be patient before trying another test!

I got pregnant while exclusively breastfeeding a 5 month old ,definitely not reliable as contraception !

What were the first signs you were pregnant?

When I got pregnant whilst breastfeeding I wasn't having regular periods so didn't know when I was due on. But I had a sudden funny feeling I was and then I had some light bleeding which made me suspicious. I also get a bit lightheaded when first pregnant.
