Hello,
We've been trying for a baby for the past 18 months and had no joy as yet. We are due to see a infertility consultant next month after being on the waiting list for what feels like forever.
For some unknown reason, for the first time ever, I am 6 days late! Never, ever been this late before. I have done 2 pregnancy tests but both were negative. Whats going on? Anybody any ideas? I'd be very grateful for any advice, info etc.

Don't want to get your hopes up too much but I was 9 days late before I got the BFP that is now fast asleep next to me Good luck

NineUnlikelyTales · 22/04/2007 11:23

Have you been under a lot of stress, eating differently, exercising more, losing weight, living with a new woman in the house, poorly or anything else unusual? All these things can make you late. I am normally on time to the minute (seriously!) but I had a couple of late periods when I was stressed.

So definitely don't get your hopes up yet, but it is possible that your pg hormone levels are not high enough to show on a test at the moment. Maybe try a different brand of test, for instance one of the brands that are supposed to detect pg before AF is due..they are more sensitive.

Good luck

NineUnlikelyTales · 22/04/2007 11:24

And do you feel period-y?

mrsRabbit · 22/04/2007 12:00

Not been doing anything different really. This is one month in ages that I haven't been stressed out about ttc due to our appointment next month.I've used a boots pregnancy test (actually, I've used 3!)
Is this an ok one? Could do with finding out soon, to save me having to get a loan for pt's!

Oh, and I don't feel particularly period-y! Had abit of stomache ache but not the usual, low down feeling! Strange!

i hate boots tests, i always use clearblue now.

fortyplus · 22/04/2007 12:08

Keeping fingers crossed for you, but don't get hopes up too much. I had something similar a few times before I wanted children, which caused a good deal of panic on occasions. I went from very regular periods to suddenly having cycles that varied by about 10 days. It turned out to be hormonal - my consultant told me to go on the pill until I wanted children, then contact him again if I didn't conceive within 6 months of coming off it. I was very lucky - the pill regularised my cycle & ds1 was conceived a month after I stopped taking it.

mrsRabbit · 22/04/2007 12:10

Oh no, stocked up on boots tests because they were on offer! How long shall I wait before I test again? Is it worth another trip to boots for clearblue tests? Think I'll have to sneak them into the house! Ha Ha

Been really regular for the past year and had hormone/thyroid/annemia tests at Docs recently and all were fine! Am also ovulating as had tests for that too! Really dont want to get my hopes up as I'v spent much of the last year feeling dissapointed.

lissielou · 22/04/2007 12:27

when did you last test?

mrsRabbit · 22/04/2007 12:30

This morning! Just spoke to my sister and she reckons I should go and buy a first response test. Think Im going to wait a couple of days though. What do you reckon? Hate this uncertainty!

OP posts:
lissielou · 22/04/2007 12:32

tbh, i would say wait 2 days, test with a boots but in the meantime, just take it easy. i so badly want this to be it for you! will cross everything

mrsRabbit · 22/04/2007 12:38

Thanks for that lissielou. I want this to be it but am struggling to be posative. After 18 months I've become abit pessimistic.

lissielou · 22/04/2007 12:40

totally understand. ttc can be so consuming, but you are seeing a specialist soon, so either way you have plenty to look to! feel free to CAT me if you want a chat. where abouts are you?

fortyplus · 22/04/2007 12:41

I don't think feeling period-y or not has much to do with it. I felt like that each month for the first 3 months when I was pg. Will cross everything for you.

mrsRabbit · 22/04/2007 12:43

I'm in Stockport. Really appreciate the support girls. Thanks

lissielou · 22/04/2007 12:45

bit far from me (Shropshire) but will cross everything!

mrsRabbit · 22/04/2007 12:47

Ha Ha! Really appreciate the advice though. Will keep you posted.

CaptainCaveman · 22/04/2007 13:01

No advice really, just wanted to add that it took us 20 months to conceive ds. We too were waiting for appt at fertility clinic.

I had really sore boobs one morning and decided to test totally expecting a BFN - nearly fell over in shock when I saw the BFP! My periods were really irregular though so had no idea how pg I was (found out at scan that I was about 6 weeks pg when i tested).

Same day I found out I got a phone call from the fertility clinic offering me an appt that week! Happily I declined it.

everything crossed for you!

anchovies · 23/04/2007 12:15

Hi everyone

I'm mrsRabbit's sister. Just had her on the phone very concerned as she's now got pain low down on the right hand side, going from dull ache to stabbing pain. Am going to try and get her a docs appt but any thoughts in the meantime? She's now a week late and still no BFP!

mum03 · 23/04/2007 12:25

Would recommend getting blood test for pregnancy, as sometimes urine ones don't show up - my mum and sister had negative tests even at 3 and 4 months repectively!

Also with pain - it could just be af arriving of course, but it is also important not to forget it could be pregnancy related, and even more that pain on one side could be an ectopic pregnancy... please try to get to the doctor/hospital and get them to do a pregnancy blood test. Hope all is well and that you come back to report good news to us soon.

cedar12 · 23/04/2007 12:39

Get it checked out, I had bfn until I was one week late unfortunatley it was ectopic. I dont want to scare you and I am sure you will be ok. But get it checked to be on the safe side. Good Luck

anchovies · 23/04/2007 12:55

Thanks for your replies. Should I try and get a doctors appointment then (practise nurse is ringing back after 2) or just tell her to go to A&E?

scorpio1 · 23/04/2007 13:09

my period came on saturday after being 15 days late.

these things can just happen-a menstrual cycle is dependent on alot of things working in harmony-if any of these are slightly upset, things can happen, like being late.

has she had antibiotics in the last month or so?stress, change of diet, exercise changed,?

GP appointment best.IMO
