ZIKA and TTC

I hope I'm posting in the right place.. I'm looking for some advice about tests available for the Zika virus.

My partner and I will be travelling to Cuba next year for a family wedding and so we really cannot cancel. However - we were really hoping to try for another baby on our return as our first is already older than we would have hoped by the time we had another.

I have read they advise to wait 6 months before TTC as the male can pass on ZIKA through sperm. I'm absolutely devastated as we had so many plans and we weren't made aware of this at the time of booking!

Anyway... thanks for reading my life story... I would just like to know if there any private tests available to check for ZIKA in men so we don't have to wait the 6 months. I am aware there will be a price tag but exploring every option at the moment!

Thank you xx

Last year I worked in a South American country for a few months. Before leaving the UK the doctor asked me if I was wanting to TTC in the following 3 years. If I was not to go, and as I wasn't planning on TTC I was told to get the implant as even if I accidentally fell pregnant there was no way to test for Zika in the pregnancy.

I believe I did contract the Zika virus as I was really ill and had to leave the country (couldn't keep down water, got the flu and couldn't shake fatigue for months after I got back). As soon as I got to a western country I was told there was no way to test zika if it had already in the blood for more than a week!

A Canadian woman who had to do a works visit to the country was told as she was already 4 months pregnant that the baby would be safe from the virus at that stage and was born healthy. There is still little known about the virus and personally I wouldn't risk it but couldn't you not ttc before the wedding?

Sorry it's nothing more positive!

There is a private test available but its not 100%. I wouldn’t risk it i’m afraid.
