During the first cycle of using Persona do you only get a yellow light or do you also get red/green lights?

you should get 16 yellow light days in the first cycle, which tells you to test and then once you've tested it'll change to a red or green light. If you're getting yellow lights from day one, or it's not changing colour after you've tested, then there's something not working.
