Hi,

Quick question, my wife seems to think its only worth doing it once a day when you're ovulating but surely you're better off doing it more than once maybe 2/3 even 4 times when trying to conceive?

Now she is very knowledgeable about ovulation and her cycles and so on but a part of me thinks its also a numbers game.

Thanks!

I think your wife is right on this one. You've only got a finite amount of sperm and once a day is more than adequate to conceive. Some doctors say once every other day!

Rather than going for multiple times on ovulation day, you'd be more likely to be successful having sex on the days immediately prior to ovulation (if you're not already). Of course, if you're both so inclined, then go for it however frequently you like, but I wouldn't imagine more than once a day is going to increase your chances as your sperm levels would need a chance to replenish.

Good luck!

It's better to do it once a day on the four days before ovulation, on the day itself and the day after (because eggs live for around 24 hours). The reason women are fertile before they actually release an egg is because sperm can live in the female body for a few days. Having sex several times a day (unless you both want to, of course) would just use up more of your sperm supply. This is why some doctors recommend only doing it every two days throughout the whole month. But my personal opinion is once a day on the five or six fertile days.
