Brown bleeding?

Sorry, me again!

My periods are sad and pathetic and have been since I came off the implant a year ago. They’re much lighter and more brown than red. Usually I get brown spotting, a few hours of fresh red blood and then brown blood (lighter flow) finishing with brown spotting. I just started using a mooncup today to monitor what’s going on. I kept it in for almost 8 hours and when I took it out, there was more blood in there than I thought but it was all dark brown and watery. Now I know brown blood is old blood but what is going on with having JUST brown bleeding? I’m apparently ovulating and my other hormone tests came back fine. I did have 2 US done this past year and no cysts were found on my ovaries or anything. They said my lining looked “perfect” too. I don’t know what else could be causing this. I do usually get some red blood during af on my “heaviest” day but today is my heaviest day but nope, brown blood only and that now means that my entire period this month will be just brown. Any ideas?

I don't have any answers for you...sorry. But I'm experiencing similar since coming off the mini pill. My periods are now a day or two of brown spotting, 24 hours of red blood and then back to a couple of days of brown. To me it seems way too light and suggests there might be an issue but the doctor didn't seem concerned at all when I mentioned it!

I have the brown spotting and brown crap too. I’ve mentioned this to about 3 gps and none of them seem concerned. Given that all your tests have been fine, it’s most likely not an issue but I understand your concern. Maybe your AF will be different this time with some red tomorrow? The mooncup assessment seems a good tactic. I might invest in one myself...

Thanks ladies, I have “suspected scar tissue” and I don’t know if that’s a reason although my GP seems to think my uterus looks clear (a dr at the hospital said she thought she could see scar tissue so my GP asked for a repeat US to compare the two) scarring tends to ruin your lining. With tampons, I knew I was bleeding mostly brown but it looked more like spotting but seeing it in the mooncup I realised there was actually a good tablespoon or more there but for some reason it was a dark brown. And the texture of it was basically watery with maybe some very tiny brown clots (sorry tmi!) You another sound like me, just lots of brown! GnT I’m lucky if I get red bleeding for more than 8 hours. I used to have great periods, heavy flow, lovely and red. I miss them. Honestly Pibbee I wasn’t sure about mooncups at first, I thought they were just for hippies lol but it’s really good for trying to figure out what your periods are like if they’ve gone a bit mental like ours have.

Do either of you find that you don’t have a constant flow as well? Mine seems to stop and start. Like, I might have a couple of hours of flow then I’d remove my tampon and not have to put another in for hours later because I’d be bone dry :/

Mine used to randomly stop and start but actually seems to be pretty constant now once it’s got going. Mine sometimes used to stop for about 24 hours! But now, I get anywhere between 1-4 days of spotting (mostly brown crap which one Doc told me was likely to be leftover from previous cycle), then a couple of days of full on AF, then one more day of spotting, perhaps 2.

Except last cycle where AF rocked up with no spotting, a week early, and bright red.

When I was younger I am sure they used to be like 5 days of full on AF. So this clearly is just my body’s way of reminding me that I am now a wizened old crone. Thanks, womb Hmm

@Bubblegum89 did you follow up on the “suspected scar tissue” remark?

GnTplease · 28/11/2017 09:34

When I have the "proper" red period it doesn't stop and start, it's full on and fairly heavy for 24 hours or so. The brown spotting on the other hand can go away for a day and then comes back. It's usually mixed with CM so guess it's to do with how much of that there is. I also used to have a full 3-5 day proper period so this is worrying. I'm just concerned there isn't enough lining to support a pregnancy!

That’s my worry too, GnT :(

And yeah, I pushed the scar tissue thing as soon as it was mentioned which is why my dr requested a repeat US so she could compare the two. That way she could see if the “anomaly” was still there and what it could potentially be and what could be done about it. However, the area was clear on the second scan so I ended up back at square one even though I’ve since found out that an US cannot be used to diagnose scar tissue so I could still potentially have it. I wish having a baby was as easy as we were told in school that it was!

Not quite the same but I had something similar for a year after having implant out then they settled down back to normal clockwork and normal flow if you like. Good luck x
