Conceiving after teenage anorexia

Hi ladies, Just wondering if any of you have experience of conceiving after suffering anorexia? I was anorexic as a teenager, during which time my periods stopped. They came back when I started to recover and am now ttc, but worried that I may have done damage that will affect my fertility. Any advice much appreciated!

I don't have experience of anorexia, but if your cycle has returned and you're healthy now in all other respects I'm sure you won't have done lasting damage! Try to think positively and not worry :)

No personal experience, but my friend had anorexia as a teenager and now has two children. Good luck!

I am also not anorexic, but I don't see how it would have effected your ova. If you're having regular periods now I think you should be fine, so carry on and good luck. Smile

@EiffelTower. I am a recovered anorexic (also suffered as a teenager) and I have three children x

I know two people who had anorexia quite severely. The one who had it as a teenager is now in her 30s is pregnant with her second. The one who suffered from it badly and well into her 20s now has three children.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. It is reassuring to know that recovered anorexics have gone on to have healthy children :-)

I've also wondered about this. I had 2/3 periods (just started) at 14 became anorexic and then didn't have any for 3 years. I have regular periods now, this thread is reassuring

More anecdata here - my oldest friend suffered with severe anorexia throughout her twenties and finally began to beat it in her early thirties, in large part due to the fear of destroying her fertility. She gave birth to her second a few months ago, ttc just a month or two each time, no lasting effects at all.

Yes. I had severe EDs through my teens and 20s. And was on the pill the whole time. I am ok now, conceived easily - had MCs but nothing to do with my EDs. I was told once you are ovulating normally, it's all good - if the EDs affect you, in any way, it will be to stop you ovulating. So try not to worry, and good luck!

I was anorexic for ten years and still suffer bad times (just nowhere near as bad!) I didn't have a period from 20 to 28 and now at 31 have a one year old and a two year old. Took us 9 months to conceive our first and ONE ATTEMPT with our second! X
