When will I be ovulating roughly?

I put a post up a few weeks back stating I hadn't had my period since the 28th September. I finally got my period on the 12th November (46 days after my last one) has anyone ever had such a long cycle after coming off the pill and known roughly when they ovulated? Me and my partner are desperate to start a family of our own together but the ovulation calculators you find online don't go up to 46 days etc.

Use opks and bbt. You might not have ovulated last cycle. Don’t be desperate. It’ll just make you miserable...

Get to know your body. Your cycle might be irregular for a bit and you may not ovulate in a regular pattern. Regular Dtd and start doing some research about the menstrual cycle.

It's impossible for us to say when you might ovulate. I suggest tracking BBT and CM and trying OPKs as well. It will eventually settle down but can take a while.

Ovulation usually happens 12-16 days before the start of your next period. But if your cycle is 46 days it is possible that you didn’t ovulate at all.
What was your cycle like before you went on the pill?

I had really irregular periods, still am after coming off the pill I had a 62 day cycle and I ovulated I couldn’t tell you when I did tho I only knew cause I did a pregnancy test randomly I jut had a feeling and it was positive unfortunately it was a chemical one, but you can ovulate on long cycles advice I would give is just have regular sex don’t be inpatient I know it’s hard trust me you cycles should hopefully become more regular get to know your body signs etc and it will get easier to know when you ovulate, but regular sex is the best every other day and just enjoy it. My cycles slowly reduced I am now on 30 day ones but after a couple of months of long ones just takes time.

Get one of the apps that tracks your period/ovulation as it gives you a predicted ovulation day based on when you have your periods. I use flo. If you want to be sure you could always use ovulation testers and you can also put the results into the app and it analyses the data and adjusts your predicted ovulation day on this basis

Get and app like fertility friend or kindera and use clearblue ovulation sticks

Obvious question but have you done a pregnancy test?

As others have said your ovulation day is X days before your period. If you ovulate late then your period will be late too. Sometimes you'll gear up to ovulate and then not manage it so your cycle will go around again. It can be quite normal to have unusual cycles after coming off the pill but I'd go to the doctor once it's been three months without one, or after three long cycles.

I did pregnancy tests and all came back negative so I wasn't sure why I hadn't gotten my period then it arrived on the 12th November. My periods have always been irregular but never this irregular. I went on the pill (advise from doctor) to regulate my periods. I was only on the pill for 2 months and as it had sorted it out thought I would stop it again. I had all the pains, bloating etc when I was due on but nothing and then on the 12th Nov it unexpectedly turned up without any warnings. I have spoken to my doctors who want to do a blood test 21 days after my period . Not really sure why this is can anyone shed any light as to why they would want to do a blood test? I know everyone is different however what are the signs of ovulating?

It's really hard to predict. My first cycle off the pill was 39 days with ovulation at around CD26. My second cycle I ovulated on CD14. I wasn't expecting that so was already 6 weeks pregnant when I tested (I only discovered that I was further along than I thought after a couple of scans.)

The blood test is to check if you are ovulating although day 21 may not be the right time to do it given the irregularity of your cycle (ie they aim for 7 days after ovulation).
If your periods were irregular before then it’s not surprising that they are now. I went on the pill for the same reason age 16 and came off it at 29 to get pregnant, only to find my cycle an utter mess. Through time, taking B vits, acupuncture, eating low carb my cycle became more regular and now (post 2 kids) is ok. But if you had polycystic ovarian syndrome before the pill, for example, you may have it again now (ie the pill just covers things up).

Give it a bit more time and try to take good care of yourself. You may find it helpful to chart your temperature to get an idea of what’s going on. Don’t bother with any apps that work by looking at your cycle dates and predicting ovulation - they are only of use for women with standard cycles.

Thank-you all for your replies. I brought some ovulation sticks when is the best time to start using them considering I had a 46 day cycle last month so I'm technically not due my next period until 27th December if I have another 46 day cycle?

To be honest it's impossible to guess even roughly when you'll ovulate if your first cycle was so long, as it can take a while to settle down after the pill. I think you should have sex every two days to make sure you're covered and keep an eye on signs of impending ovulation such as ewcm, then you could maybe try an OPK.

Sorry, it stands for Egg White Cervical Mucus. Basically, if you check your cervical mucus everyday you should notice changes. Before, during and sometimes just after ovulation, most women have watery CM or 'egg white' CM, which is clear and very stretchy. This is the most fertile type of CM because it provides the ideal habitat for sperm.

Just insert one or two fingers quite a way up your vagina and see what's on your fingers. You may find ewcm ends up on the toilet paper when you wipe after going to toilet anyway.

Don't worry, we've all been there

There's an ap I think called cycle where you put in every body change - discharge etc and it predicts when you're ovulating, coming on etc.
My D used it as her periods were all over the place. It was accurate for her.
