My BFP at 13 DPO, First Month TTC

Hello,

This morning I got my BFP on two Clear Blues at 13 DPO / CD 32 and I just wanted to share my experience in case it’s of use to anyone.

I’m 28, husband is 29, we’ve been married 2 years and decided early October to start trying for our first baby.

This was our first month of properly TTC so I am feeling truly lucky that we have conceived so quickly - fingers crossed it sticks and everything goes smoothly from here. I’m under no illusion that this is the norm and we expected it to take some time, so I can’t quite believe it! For all of those who have struggled through month after month of TTC, I have complete respect and am in awe of your ability to keep going - I hope you all get the BFPs you deserve.

We decided to try and follow the Sperm Meets Egg Plan (SMEP) because it logically seems to make sense in terms of making sure you have sex at the right times. So, from when my last period ended on 21st Oct we had sex every other day until I got a steady smiley face on CB Digital OPK, we then had sex three days in a row. The only bit of the SMEP that we didn’t do was to wait a day and then try once more - just because of the way it worked out we didn’t have time to try that day!

After that, we really didn’t have very much sex during the TWW to be honest, even though I know they say to try and have sex every other day throughout the month. My husband is doing a part time degree on top of work so he was busy with coursework and we just didn’t feel like it after the two weeks of constant sex!

During the TWW I can’t honestly say I noticed any symptoms that were out of the ordinary - no implantation bleeding, no crazy symptoms, nothing. If I was looking out for symptoms I could say I felt the odd twinge or cramp but nothing that couldn’t have been put down to indigestion / hunger / normal bodily quirks or PMT - I tend to have a “it’s probably nothing” attitude towards my body at the best of times so I tried to continue with this mindset during the TWW so as not to drive myself crazy.

Tested first thing this morning and my BFP came up within seconds on the Clear Blue early response, confirmed by Clear Blue digital. My period is due tomorrow.

As it had only been my first month TTC I hadn’t been on the mumsnet board for long but I did a lot of lurking a gained a lot of useful info and support so just thought I would share in case it helps someone else.

Fingers crossed my BFP sticks and everything goes well - so many things to worry about!

Good luck to everyone else trying for a BFP, fingers crossed for you all SmileSmile

Congratulations!! If it makes you feel alittle better myself & DH conceived our first baby on the first month too. Me and DH were 31 and convinced it would take 6-12 months like quoted as average for our age. We were in complete shock it happened that quickly like literally I had only just came off the birth control pill that's I'd been on for years and hadn't even been off it long. I like you and so worried it wouldn't stick because I'd heard afew horror around the time and was counting the days until my scans! DS is now 8.5 months and a happy cheeky little chap. We are convinced it was luck and if we try forna second we won't be so lucky!!

Thank you @AJ89

@Bella8 - Thank you, it is such a surprise when everything you read says average 6-12 months isn’t it?! Glad everything worked out well for you though - that does make me feel a bit better and hopefully I have nothing to worry about, will hopefully feel more at ease after the first scan! Smile

Congratulations hann!! We were exactly the same. Conceived the first month of trying age 30 & then (even though I was breastfeeding no.1!) We conceived no.2 when no.1 was 3 months! So Irish twins. 😉 Fast forward a decade & we have 6!! Hope all goes well & you have a happy, easy pregnancy.

Oh they say breastfeeding isn't a suitable method of contraception as they used to think as found out by euanthesheep. After DS was born I demanded the pill despite breastfeeding even though an NHS GP tried to say it was fine without (advice against NHS policy) so beware as some incorrect advice out there.

Thanks @euanthesheepiloveyou - sounds like you’ve had your hands full over the years!! Smile
