Getting pregnant while on the mini pill

I currently take the progestogen only mini pill, micronor, and wondered if any mumsnet members have had pregnancy scares while taking this. I took this pill for 4 years before stopping to have my first baby. I have been back on it now for a year since my baby was born. I just keep getting a niggling feeling that I may be pregnant again. I feel constantly tired, and very fat and bloated, though my weight has only changed by a couple of pounds. I am getting fluttering sensations in my tummy (or is it just wind?), and cramping and feel breathless. My periods have always been irregular on this pill, but for the past few months, I just seen to have been spotting - most recently for 3 full weeks, though not heavy. I guess I am scared to take a test as I am telling myself not to be stupid.

I don't have any experiences with the minipill wmf, but I think you'll have to take a test to be 100%. HOpe you get the result you want...whatever that may be!

I fell pregnant whilst on the mini pill. Although my story is a bit more complicated - I had missed a pill so went and took the morning after pill and also resumed taking my pill's as normal.

Dispite this I still fell pregnant. It's possible on any pill to still fall pregnant.

Widemouthfrog - I was on micronor for just over a year while breasfeeding.
I had no periods until 14 mths after ds' birth and then they were irregular and I had spotting for a few months, so I switched back to the combined pill after stopping b/f.

Apparently spotting and irregular periods are to be expected on the mini pill. I hated it and I hated feeling "not myself" - that's the only way I can describe it. Have a look at the leaflet inside the pill pak to see if it mentions any of your symptoms as side effects. I felt all your symptoms apart from the breathlessness - you might want to mention that to your GP.

Take a test to reassure yourself. hth

WMFrog - I am experiencing exactly the same as you! Have been on the mini pill "Femulen" for a couple of years and i swear most months i am sure i am pregnant. I dont know whether it is because the side - effects of this pill are similar to pg symptoms (i get sore boobs, metalic taste in mouth, bit of bloating) or that i am constantly aware that if i am a few hours late taking it (which i often am!) then there is a realistic chance it might not work. I wouldnt like to say how much money i have spent on pg tests (especially as my period is often late or irregular on this pill). This month i have had a week of spotting and no proper period to speak of. A couple of months ago i had such a heavy period that i bled through my clothes!!! Dont know about you but i would rather put up with this than the side effects i used to get on the combined pill!

Have you thought about the Mirena coil at all? Very effective (supposed to be the same % as sterilisation) and as it releases progesterone in small amounts, periods diminish - in some they stop all together. Can only be good news to me!! I've had mine for about 9 months now.

Tessiebear · 20/08/2004 14:42

I have thought about it yes - am also considering whether to have 1 more baby before finding a more permanent solution

poppyseed · 20/08/2004 14:46

OOoo how exciting!! More babies
We have stopped at 2 as I'm too old and my eggs are probably stale by now! Really can't convince DH into more either so it's purely for enjoyment these days!!

That is great news Tessiebear - Why don't you start trying maybe at the beginning of November for a September baby!!!!!!!!!!
