To drink or not to drink.......

Quick poll to see how everyone stands (or not I guess!) on the alcohol front whilst ttc. Currently on the 3rd month of ttc and I have not modified my alcohol intake at all up til now....

When we first decided to try, we agreed not to go over the top and get stressed about it all - hence I am still drinking as much as I ever did. It's not exactly high but there are the odd nights of excess (Friday, for example...)and I am now considering cutting back for the sake of ttc.

What does everyne else think? Have you all sworn off the booze and am I the only old soak among us?!

I cut back whilst ttc - no spirits, max 2 units a day. But once my period arrived I figured I was safe to drink what I wanted for the next 7 days.

mrsflowerpot · 19/07/2004 13:01

No, haven't sworn off it totally, and didn't last time either. I did cut back when ttc the first time, which I think just made me all over healthier (not that I was a huge drinker, but limiting it to Friday and Saturday night cuts out a few units) - have to say though that since having ds my consumption has pretty much stayed at that level, so I haven't cut back this time.

malinki · 19/07/2004 13:07

No I haven't given it up totally either, I'm like MFP, limit it to weekends, I still get a giggle from getting fresh on booze. But IVF is waiting for me so I have to loose about 50 million stone and stay sober for a long time. (sheer hell, but hopefully the end result will be worth it, god I sound like an L'Oreal add)

I generally only drink on Friday and Sat nights now, getting old appears to have curbed my desire to stay up till all hours drinking cocktails anyway.......

Just had a bit of a panic after Friday nights excess, feel a bit guilty....

I have this totally ridiculous reverse psychology thing whereby I carry on drinking as normal (not excessively but 2-3 glasses of wine probably 4 times a week) because (subconsciously) I figure that if I keep drinking that I will find out I'm pregnant (because yyou're not supposed to IFYKWIM). Does that make any sense?! anyway, not worked so far

Angeliz · 19/07/2004 17:54

I tryed for 5 months and asked the same quetion on here and did what someone advised. Took it easy the last two weeks of cycle 'just incase' but no, i didn't stop.
Few glasses of wine most night.
Then we went away for a week and i forgot about trying to conceive and drank what i wanted,(in moderation-have dd), and got pregnant so i'd say, try to forget

(and make the most, i haven't had a glass of wine for weeks now i am!!)

Seabird · 19/07/2004 21:08

I became less and less careful about drinking in the 6 months it took to conceive DD and the month I got pg was pretty boozey (not that I am advocating this of course)! This time I'm carrying on as normal (though with DD "normal" is rather less than it used to be )

suzywong · 19/07/2004 21:15

FWIF
Both my children are the result of easing off the pressure of TTC, a boozy night out with the girls on one occasion and a Christmas party on the other.
Came home merry, jumped my husband and bob's your uncle.

glad it made you laff Suzy. After I posted it I thought you may think it was rude

runtus · 21/07/2004 08:39

Well, I'm off on my best mates hen do on friday so I will definitely be in the 'carry on as normal' drinking club then!

Once I find out I am pg (if I ever do....) then I'll stop but until then, life must go on......

surely you have to drink lots to get pregnant!?!?

joke
but seriously - I didn't modify mine much

runtus · 23/07/2004 10:37

I've taken a poll amongst my friends that have kids and the general consensus is that if you don;t drink while ttc, you'll so regret it once you are pregnant and can't!

So in the name of all those pregnant women out there, I'm going to get drunk tonight!

TBH the month before I found out I was pregnant with DS, I'd been drinking like a fish
