Feeling a bit lost

Been TTC for a year. Husband had sperm checked out, some damage and will recheck in a couple of months. I had a blood test to see if I was ovulating and I am. Doctor has now said basically come back in a year and I'm a bit lost and confused now. I was hoping get to a year things ain't going anywhere and things may start to get a move with some medical intervention, just felt like I'm just sat with a year to go and am in the same place as I was a year ago but much more downtrodden and fed up. Anyone had similar or is my dr crap?

Get your dh taking 1000mg soluble vitamin C twice a day. . Sperm cycle is around 90 days remember!!

Our GP was extra useless and refused to refer even after 2 years. We then changed GP's and got referred. However, it was all so slow that we ended up paying for IVF ourselves to just get on with it a professional clinic.

Do you know what numbers DH's analysis returned? Sperm quality is most strongly correlated with time to pregnancy.

Or even Proxeed or Profertil for DH. They are specialist supplements with all the right stuff in.

Hi OP sorry to hear you're feeling lost. Are you able to pay for an ultrasound privately? It could highlight an issue that the blood tests won't, or put your mind at ease if its all clear. Waiting is the hardest thing. Fx for you

Sadly that’s the nhs norm if you have unexplained everything. If there are no health issues. You both have good health and your cycles are regular it might be worth focusing your efforts on getting your DHs sperm up to standards. Vit c is a good suggestion. Are you tracking WHEN you ovulate too? I was surprised to find that I ovulate later in my cycle than I thought and so now we have a much clearer aim after months of tracking everything. We’ve been TTC over a year and I’m yet to visit the docs as I know I have things to try myself. Medical intervention such as ivf is such a far step to take and you need to be mentally and physically prepared for that step. Xxx

Thanks for the advice and support. I'll get him on the vitamin c for starters, good thinking of going for improving the quality of sperm. They didn't give any numbers, not sure if he can ring up and ask? I have been tracking my ovulation so pretty certain when that is all happening. Haven't thought of the ultrasound but will give that an investigate as well, cheers

I think they would give your husband a copy of he results if he asked. Another test to consider would be checking if your tubes are clear.

If sperm quality is a problem, there are vitamins specifically for improving this. It's generally accepted they take up to 3 months to work, so get him on them fast! Improved health generally is good for sperm quality, so healthy diet and lots of exercise (but not cycling, and preferably wearing loose shorts as high temperatures can affect sperm mobility).
Doctors will always recommend waiting as a first response. Personally I'd give it 3 months of doing everything as close to perfectly as you can (vitamins, diet and exercise for both of you, low caffeine and alcohol as these can affect fertility) and temperature chart/monitor cervical mucus like you have OCD! That way when you do go back to push for a referral you have all the information they might want.

Hi, pine bark extract / pycnogenol can really help sperm morphology apparently. We used that and 1000mg vit C together with Instead Cups (I was getting desperate after 18 months) and this seemed to help us! I was also doing ovulation tests twice a day to make sure we nailed timing right just before ovulation!

Definitely try and change GP and see if you can get more tests done (i.e. tubes etc) in the interim. Good luck, I know how frustrating it is! X
