Help! Expert advice needed on blood test 7 DPO am confused!!!!!

I've been ttc baby number 2 for the last few months. After watching my cycle observing cm and using opk's I realised that my luteal phase is only 9 days long. My gp wants to conduct blood tests 7 dpo. This month I've been charting and using opk's. On cd16 and 17 I had the classic ewcm but on both those days my opk's lines didn't match the test line in colour (quite weak). My temp has not risen and my cm is very wet but not ewcm ( sorry if tmi!) I have an appointment for a blood test on fri as I thought that would be 7 dpo but now I'm not even sure that I've ovulated. Any advice about what to do? My cycle is usually 26/27 days long.

Hi buttercup - I have just had my 2nd CD21/ 7dpo blood test - if I were you I would go and have it as GP directed and then he will be able to tell if you did ov or if this cycle may have been anovulatory. Don't worry, they are not that unusual and do happen to most every now and again its just that most people are unaware as they aren't charting/temping etc- I expect that the GP will need another test next month anyway to compare and contrast IYKWIM (that's why have had 2 so far)

I know it is rubbish advice but try not to stress too much as that in itself could delay ov. And there is lots that can be done to lengthen LP, supplements etc.

HTH a bit

Hi Buttercup,

I think I have a similar cycle and wanted to say it didn't stop me conceiving No.1 and I'm hopeful that number 2 will be that quick as well. My luteal phase ranges from 8-11 days and my cycle's also 26-29 days long.

Where are you now in your cycle? My temp shift doesn't happen until day 19 or so, so maybe yours isn't showing yet? Also lots of things affect temps.

I've found the cheap opks aren't giving me reliable lines. Despite doing 2 a day at least . I think others have had that.

Did you find it hard to conceive first time round? I have heard people talking about luteal phase defect and I don't really know what it means, but I wanted to say that at least for me, a short luteal phase didn't stop me conceiving, so I hope its not a problem for you too.

Definitely no expert, but I think that the tests are to check that you ovulated, and I'm not sure that entirely relates to luteal phase problems. Someone else will know properly what you'd need to do to check luteal phase probs.

Hope that helps - good luck and try not to worry!

Thanks girls.
seaside I told the dr I think if ovulation has happened it would have been sun/mon and said to her shall I come in next monday for the blood test and she said just come in this friday as they are looking for 'trends'. Now I'm not sure whether to go fri or mon for my blood test. What do you reckon?
kayjayel thanks for your positive info about your luteal phase and conception. My cycle was different (28 days long and ovulating around day 14) when I concieved ds and we we're very lucky conceiving on the second cycle.

buttercup - my cycles are pretty regular around 25-27 days and normally ov on CD12-14 so I have been for tests on CD21 and CD20 so far . But my GP did say last time that any day after about 6dpo but before Af should give an OK indication to tell if OV was happening - What CD are you on now and when is AF due?
I am sure Friday would be fine?

If it is any consolation my cycles are boringly regular and text book with ov CD12-14 and I have been TTC #1 for 18 months with no joy - Its frustrating isn't it!

buttercupbabe · 11/04/2007 20:11

Hi seaside. My cycles have been 26/27 days long recently. I'm cd20 today so that would make me cd 22 if i go friday and then my af could be due anything from 4 days after that. Perhaps I should go friday as it might be too close to af arriving if I go monday.
Yes it is a frustrating time. I was so lucky with ds. Are you ttc your first?

buttercup - I think Friday will be good as the progesterone will start to drop again before AF - so I would say Friday seems worth a go, whatever the result I would make sure the GP does at least one more test next month or the month after. If you are charting and temping you are welcome to join us on the Temp buds thread and/or on the Chartspotters thread We are a lovely bunch honest!!

Yes I am TTC my first - I never ever imagined we would still be TTC after 18 months when we began - I was hoping to be thinking about #2 by now! - Oh well

Good luck on Friday- let us know how you get on

buttercupbabe · 12/04/2007 13:07

Thanks seaside. Hope you get a bfp soon. It sounds as though everything is in working order so hopefully not too much longer. It's a frustrating time but will be worth it all in the end. I'll let you know what happens re my blood test.

Hi buttercup - hope test okay today and results come back all good. Hope No.2 comes quickly! Am joining you in confusion as my temps have failed to shift, plus got no opk line so am now worrying (or trying not to worry) that I've not ov'd. I think things would be easier if I didn't know so much about temps, etc. but its too late now.
Good luck with everything.
seaside - sorry its tough for you - have been fairly close to FTC (am Imp's other half )

seaside72 · 13/04/2007 09:51

ohh kayjayel - its so nice to "see" you on MN as Imp's other half!
Fingers crossed for you both - how annoying about ov confusion? Mind you as we well know- having a lovely clear temp rise and clear opk+ doesn't seem to guarantee a BFP in this world?

Join us on the temp thread if you want? (I linked it for buutercup below- does it look like I am recruiting!! - we are a small little group - not too much babydust!!)

Sorry for thread hijack buttercup - hope your test goes well today and result is good

kayjayel · 13/04/2007 10:50

Hi seaside thanks for welcome! Will have a look at the temps chart - I'd been staying away from conception threads. I confess I'm a bit of a lurker - I think if I join in too much I would just end never ever doing any work again! I love how what ever weird and wonderful prob I have I always always find at least one other person on MN who's had it and can be reassuring. Am actively ignoring my temps now in the hope they're just a reaction to the complete sleep deprivation machine that is DS.
Will run off now to nosy at other people's personal body temperatures !

buttercupbabe · 13/04/2007 12:44

Thanks Kayjayel and seaside for your kind wishes today. I've been in to the doctors and the deed has been done. I'm such a baby feeling squeamish about it. Ds sat in his buggy intrigued by it all! I may well join the temp threads like kayjayel I think my temps are a bit erratic. I'd like to blame ds for that but sadly it is my weak bladder that gets me out of bed before I can do temps...
