Drinking during ttc / 2ww

I came off the pill recently and had my withdrawal bleed but my cycle hasn't settled yet so I'm not too sure where I'm at. Based on cm I would be in 2ww, awaiting first proper af since stopping Cerazette.

Is it safe to drink during 2ww?

We aren't properly trying yet so I'm not expecting bfp and not drinking at social events this weekend will raise a few eyebrows. I don't want people to know we're ttc just yet.

Until you get a bfp you aren’t pregnant. Drink if you want to. Ttc can take awhile. Continue as normal for as long as possible.

The simple answer is yes; the more complex answer is that it's up to you.

The first answer is based on:

  • if you have managed to ovulate and fertilise that egg, during the first few days after ovulation it's just kind of floating through your Fallopian tubes and uterus waiting to implant... so a few drinks aren't going to touch it (a few; probs not a great idea to go nuts)
  • after implantation the little cells start multiplying like mad, but they're fairly interchangeable cells at that point, so even if you had a few too many drinks, chances are you might affect some of those cells, but there would be enough left to compensate for them. Basically, don't get absolutely blotto and kill lots of cells, and you should be absolutely fine.

Second answer comes from knowing that only you can make a decision that's right for you and that fits with what's good for you. If depriving yourself of a glass of wine after a long week is going to be worse for you psychologically, have the glass of wine. If, on the other hand, you are the sort of person who tends to blame yourself for things...maybe play it safe.

Good luck.

You're perfectly safe to drink in the 2ww Smile. If ttc takes a while and you start thinking about not drinking to help with conception then you really need to think about cutting back long term... it takes 3-4 months of not drinking to make any difference to fertility, a couple of weeks here and there won't make any difference
