Anyone else on Metformin?

I'm on Metformin (1500mg a day) as part of my treatment for type one diabetes, but I understand this drug is also given to aid fertility for people with PCOS. Does anyone have any experience of conceiving on Metformin? Anyone else taking it for diabetes or something else? Thanks.

I used to take it next to my insulin for DM1. I have pcos and actually stopped using it when trying to conceive. Although it can help conceive (slightly statiscal speaking) the effects on the embryo aren't totally clear and I didn't want to take the risk.

I take it for pcos, currently 5 weeks pregnant, my doctor advised that i keep taking it as I'm a bit overweight. She said it's safe to take during pregnancy

Oh, that's good that it's safe to take if pregnant. Did it help you conceive in the end, @thecolonelbumminganugget?

Can't really say, we conceived on cycle 2 ( amazingly, I've been told for many years that I'd struggle to get pregnant without assistance by various Drs when I've been in and out having operations etc). Who knows whether that would have been the case with or with our taking it but I had only been back on it for a month after a couple of years break. I don't think that's enough time to have made a difference (cycle 1 we weren't dtd at the right time in hindsight).

After being diagnosed with PCOS I was put on metformin and was lucky enough to conceive within 6 weeks of starting. The drs said it was safe to stay on it (I had read that some studies say it reduces the chances of miscarriage) and it was only after I saw the consultant at 16 weeks that I came off x

It’s routinely used in PCOS. One of my friends is taking it too.

Thank you, that's helpful
