I'm almost 38 and Dd1 is 10 early next year, dd2 is 7 soon... Starting to get cold feet... Am I too old? Is the age gap too big? Had a mmc at 11 weeks in December and wondering if it's my body saying nope..? Anyone else worried about the age gap? Anyone with similar age gaps?

Hi Hulaballoo

I’m sorry about your loss.

I’m 38 too, cycle 3 of ttc #4. My youngest will be 7 in the spring, middle is 8 and my eldest is turning 17 soon. I had a chemical about 18m ago when we weren’t ttc.

I have doubts about the gap, but I’ve done a 9yr gap before so that allays my concerns quite a bit, I worry that the gap is too big and I have left it too late.

But it’s what I’ve wanted for so long, and I felt awful after the chemical especially when I thought we wouldn’t try again.

For what it's worth, there are 20 years between me and my sister and we have a great sibling relationship! Our amazing mum did it all in her early twenties and then again in her forties. She says you pick it all up again exactly as before! Bless her. Obviously me and sis never grew up together as she'd left home by the time I came along, so it was a bit like being an only child, but then she had children by the time I was 10 so I had them in my life too! So from my experience I honestly don't think age gaps are that big a deal. As a kid you just work with whatever your situation is, and there's pros and cons to all options! X

I'm 40 with a 6 year old and a 5 month old. I had 2 mmc in s row with a year ttc in between before DS2. The age gap is great, DS1 loves his baby brother and DS2 is fascinated by him. It's been pretty easy so far although I shouldn't temp fate
You are definitely not too old!
