Are implantation cramps actually a thing?

I’m skeptical that they exist to be honest. I’m currently 13dpo, af due tomorrow. I know I definitely ovulated this month (confirmed by blood tests) and I assume it was two weeks ago tomorrow as I was having ewcm and positive opks the Wednesday and Thursday and although I got a positive opk on the Friday, it quickly turned negative when I took another a few hours later.

Anyway, a few days ago I started having mild af type cramps which were kind of on and off for about a day but then they disappeared and I’ve not had them since. I usually get sore boobs a week before af but this cycle they’ve been completely fine, not even slightly tender so I’m guessing that means I’m out (along with two very negative frer’s taken yesterday and today!) but I just wondered what the cramps might have been (they weren’t gas pains lol) but like I said, I don’t actually believe implantation cramps are a real thing.

I had mild cramping with dc1. I had a mild stretching sensation this time. Everyone and every pregnancy is different. FR are usually pretty reliable even a little earlier than your afternoon date, going by previous threads

I've had implantation cramps. They are a real thing. Very frustrating though, as when ttc, af pains can give false hope and it means I over analyse it all.

AnnieOH1 · 28/09/2017 09:27

Good God, I had the most horrendous night which only in retrospect did I realise was implantation pain. The pain seemed to start around my lower spine but ascended to mid spine. I took every painkiller to hand (some fairly serious ones I might add) and they did nothing. DH was working away that night and I called him in tears at about 3am to warn him I might need him to return home. That's how seriously bad it was for me. I don't know if it has anything to do with how I carry (low in pelvis towards spine) or what but honestly I would take my daughters birth again over that night of pain!

Whattodofirst · 28/09/2017 09:27

I had awful "period" pains in the week before my bfp's so I'd say they definitely exist for me but everyone is different.

Mummyme87 · 28/09/2017 09:39

I had what I think was implantation pain or one side when walking to work, lasted half an hour maybe. Sharp and very low abdomen to one side

Fia256 · 28/09/2017 10:05

I fully believe I had implantation pain with my last pregnancy.

8dpo - woke early morning around 4am to go to the loo, when I stood up, I had the worst pains in my lower stomach, like I’d pulled a muscle but over the whole of my tummy. Went away after a few minutes and that was that

Later on in the day around 1pm, wiped and was the tiniest bit of pink spotting. Nothing else after that

Next morning 9dpo - very very faint bfp on a frer! And when I had my scans, it all was dead on dates too for implantation to have happened when it did!

Lilypad15 · 28/09/2017 10:20

I just assumed they were a myth lol like implantation bleeding. It’s frustrating as I had them at 10dpo so 4 days before af is due and was like oh well looks like I’m coming on early but 3 days later, it’s not show up but I know I can’t be pregnant because I used two first response tests and got nothing. I started having a few sharp pains in my right side this morning and felt quite wet down there so figured af was here but I’ve just checked and the wetness is just milky white cm. I know af is going to show up so I don’t know why my body feels like it has to drag out the torture by giving me all these weird aches and pains!!

They do exist, I had them.

But I did have similar pains when I was about to come on my period.

I've never seemed the point in symptom spotting as the symptoms for both pregnancy and period coming, seem to be exactly the same.

sizeofalentil · 28/09/2017 11:21

YES! For me, anyway. I had agonising period-like cramps, to the extent where I got off the train and didn't think I could walk up the road to my house.

But I do think I was a rare case, most of my friends didn't seem to get it.

I didn't get any bleeding though.

Fia256 · 28/09/2017 11:47

That all sounds pretty positive to me @Lilypad15

DearTeddyRobinson · 28/09/2017 11:54

Yup, I had period-type pains with all my pregnancies. Also my boobs didn't hurt as they usually would have just before my period. Lots of discharge too.
Are you suddenly finding yourself needing to eat toast and peanut butter at 9pm?!

BigBlockofCheese · 28/09/2017 11:54

Implantation cramps/bleeding isn't a myth. I had it with dc1. But the nhs don't seem to believe in it because when I mentioned it at my booking appointment they packed me off for an early scan. Dates were bang on for implantation so I wasn't too concerned and I got to see the tiny little heartbeat alot sooner so it worked out well.

juneybean · 28/09/2017 12:24

I get cramps every month and hope that they're implantation cramps but they never are :(

I do think that they are a thing though! Not necessarily the eggy burrowing in but the aftershocks of that if that makes sense.

Lilypad15 · 28/09/2017 13:51

Quick side question also! If I got ewcm on the Wednesday, still had it on Thursday and also had two strong positive opks then had a tiny bit of ewcm and a positive opk then a negative opk on the Friday, is it more likely that I ovulated on the Friday or would it have been on the Saturday? The whole time scale of ovulation confuses the hell out of me. If it would have been the Friday then tomorrow I should get af but don’t want to get myself excited if it doesn’t show up but it was actually the Saturday that I ovulated.

I’ve never had mid cycle cramping before, I sometimes get the odd twinge but not cramps that make me think af is on the way. After almost a year of ttc I don’t tend to symptom spot anymore but there was something about this month that I felt positive about and with the cramps and lack of sore boobs I thought maybe it could be something but tbh the frer’s I did have made me think I’m just being silly as surely I would be getting at least a faint line by now on a first response :(

Ovulation can occur within 12-36 hours of a positive OPK... so could be late Friday/early Saturday. Fingers crossed for you!

ToddlersAndCoffee · 28/09/2017 13:58

I had very strong implantation cramps with dc1, ds1 And ds2 to the point I was in absolute agony! I know it was implantation as ended up in hospital twice because it was so bad! Hospital did bloods and scans and I was confitemed pregnant.

ToddlersAndCoffee · 28/09/2017 14:02

Sorry I just read up thread, implantation bleeding is not a myth. I had that with all 3 pregnancys too!

Lilypad15 · 28/09/2017 14:09

For some reason, drs seem to think that implantation cramps and bleeding are a figment of our imagination lol although I have read so many posts from women saying they had them so I guess they must be a thing!

This is the first cycle off the implant where I had ewcm. The other 10 months I’ve had clear watery cm but nowhere near ewcm consistency so think that’s maybe why I felt more positive about this cycle. We dtd on the Friday that I thought I was ov’ing (partner works nights and I already have a very curious 9 year old daughter so we managed to find an hour between him going to work and my daughter being at her dads lol) I’m just sick of being disappointed every month, I’m annoyed at myself for symptom spotting! Doesn’t help my little sister is 20 weeks pregnant (a total accident of course!) and has a huge bump and posts a hundred scan pics a day. It makes me feel more obsessed with ttc than usual

I bled at ovulation.

Had a weird bleed 5DPO and then 7DPO hideoous cramps- I have endo and they were like the start of AF was convinced my cycle was out for some reason.

11DPO positive pregnant test. Cramps for me didn't settle until 8 weeks happened daily.

Lilypad15 · 29/09/2017 08:57

Well af didn’t show up this morning but I checked my cervix and it’s really low so I guess that means I’m out so those cramps must have just been random because my body thinks that I’ve clearly not been through enough Envy
