I’m starting fertility tests and I’ve just had my bloods taken to check my progesterone levels to see if I’m ovulating or not. I’ve not got the results yet but I’m getting such bad anxiety.

What is the next step if it turns out I’m not ovulating?

Or what is the next step if it turns out I am ovulating?

Hi Lily,

I would guess if they show you haven't ovulated you would be possibly referred for a scan or to the fertility clinic and they may then discuss things like Clomid.

Hi @Lilypad15 I'm not sure but going to the go to ask to get blood done..
I didn't know they could see if you ovulate or not through a blood test, that's great! I'm hoping they'll be able to do it any news from your blood tests?

After the 'day 21' test for progesterone (indicator of ovulation), there's the 'day 3' blood test for FSH, testosterone and various other things. They might refer you for an ultrasound scan (aka fanjo-cam) to check lining and things. Might also refer partner for semen analysis.

Next steps obviously depend on results - e.g. day 3 test might indicate thyroid issue, which they'd recommend meds for. Mine have all been relatively normal (waiting for SA results) so can't tell you about specifics.

It's trite, but would just say take one step at a time; fx and hope you get some answers soon

Thanks for your replies ladies. My progesterone came back as “consistent with ovulation” and FSH/LH and thyroid was normal. I guess I’ll need to call my dr now and ask what I need to do next?

Would like to follow this to see if you get any other replies.

I had my 21 day test recently and went back to GP to talk about the results, was told my progesterone level was below 2 and my testosterone level was a little high, she thinks PCOS!? I am booked in for a transvaginal scan, as well as a second blood test 1 week after the first, and then a third a week after that, so got to wait & see.

Let me know how you get on?
