Hello all, not very experienced with pg tests asy first two were both surprise pregnancies and I didn't find out until further down the line. So I have a ery basic question:

If m ovulation day is Wednesday when would be the first day i can test? And what test should I use?

My period isn't due until 12 october. I'd rather not wait that long because I have an mri scan booked in earl October and would have to cancel that if pregnant...

When Is your mri scan?
If your period isn't due until 12th I guess the earliest would be around the 10th?

Argh my mri scan is on the 4th...

A couple of days before your period if you use an early response test.
However, there are no guarantees you will see a line that early if you're pregnant. You're very likely to see a false negative, rather than see a line, even if you are pregnant.
Test the day of the period if it hasn't arrived using a decent test (clear blue or first response early response.)

You may not have to cancel the scan - tell your consultant/contact you can't be sure you're not pregnant and in the 2ww. I think it unlikely they'll cancel. Mri can be used in pregnancy.

Ok, sound alike I will have to move my mri appointment by a couple of weeks...

anatidae I had an appointment a few weeks ago and one of the questions was about pregnancy. I was almost certain that I wasn't but m period was overdue so I said I couldn't be 100% sure and the cancelled the appointment as a result.

I thought it was strange as I have read afterwards that mri scans can be used during pregnancy. Apparently not advised in the first trimester...

The relevant day is the number of days past ovulation (dpo)

Implantation takes place between 7 - 12 dpo. Before this, you aren’t pregnant and no test can pick it up. After implantation, your hcg levels rise rapidly. This website gives you the stats on when most tests give a positive result (including the percentage of false negatives).

You should have a fairly good idea by the 4th, but not guaranteed

Thanks nimble! Seems like I have to wait until the 9th October at the very earliest, and the 13th if I'm being reasonable. Grin

Just to let you know, I work in MRI and if there was a chance of pregnancy we wouldn't scan you, (or in early pregnancy). Good luck :) xx

LittleBirdBlues · 24/09/2017 19:33

Thanks dangle! I will definitely change the date of the scan...
