HCG: not an indicator of a viable prefnancy

Hi Ladies. There have been a lot of comments on this thread about getting your HCG levels checked to reassure you about the pregnancy. Until yesterday I would have agreed. Scan at 7 weeks (obygn), and then kept getting HCG tests done (gp) for reassurance until 8 weeks 5 days. Light spotting and went to obygn for a check - just in base...). Baby died at 7 weeks 2 days. Placenta was still growing which led to the normal HCG levels. He explained HCG should only be used to confirm pregnancy and to confirm a miscarriage when the levels are dropping. It gives false security re viable prefnancy. After 7 weeks only a scan will give you the true picture.
