Never tried this... Bought a decent thermometer, waiting for it to arrive but my worry is.... Do I really have to temp at exactly the same time... Can it be give or take 5 mins? 10 mins? I don't always wake at exactly the same time....

I get up and 6am on a weekday and around 9 / 10 on a weekend, that seems to makes a huge difference, my temp is always much higher when I've slept in a bit. Occasionally on a weekday I'll get a later train and sleep in til 6.45, that seems to make bugger all difference compared to 6am. The important thing is to do as little as possible between waking and taking your temp. I think the gold standard is to have it next to your bed and shove it in before you do anything else. I flop to the bathroom to do mine as I can't see to do it in the bedroom in the morning. Seems to be ok so far.

Hulaballoo · 18/09/2017 22:45

Ok I can manage that 😁 is it OK to take temp orally? Thank you

There are bbt time adjusters if you take at different time to your normal. Useful in practice but also for looking at how much difference to temp it might make if later / earlier. Not sensitive to small time difference.

Hulaballoo · 19/09/2017 07:07

@MogScratch ah that's good to know. I'm going to have to read up about that. Thank you x

I'm quite enjoying this temping malarkey. Although I have no idea if it's telling me anything other than my temps are up and down!! Not even 100% that I O'd cos the temps are so up and down!

Argh that looks so complicated 😳 is that an app? Looks better than the paper version that's coming with the thermometer. Is your temperature meant to peak when you ovulate? Need to get researching how to do this...

OP posts:
Cakelaur · 19/09/2017 12:37

It's just an app. You enter all the temps in each day and it draws the chart. All the bits at the bottom I've added so I can keep track month to month. Most people's seem to have a clearer low and high point. After ovulation it should shoot up and stay up. Mine is jumping all over the place. No idea what that means

Hulaballoo · 19/09/2017 14:04

@Cakelaur are you using opk too? Maybe use both and see if you're ovulating at a particular spike... Maybe there's a pattern ?

@Hulaballoo the app @Cakelaur is using is called Kindara. I use it too, it's amazing and it also has a community where you can share your chart and ask questions.
I recommend reading 'taking charge of your fertility' and it really helped me being a lot more relaxed about it all (I temp within a two hour frame as I have very irregular sleep). Kindara also sell BBT called wink (it's about £120, so think about it....). My main reason for buying it was that the normal thermometer had woke my fiancé up with its man beeps and I struggled to read it in the dark, had to turn on the torch on my phone to read it, woke myself up even more etc. The wink is taking your temp within a maximum of 20 secs, it's vibrates when it's done so your partner can't hear, and then - best part - automatically syncs with the app so you can turn around and go back to sleep without doing anything! I love it! And I love the kindara community!

Hulaballoo · 19/09/2017 19:27

Ooh cool thanks @Peanutty86 I'll definitely check it out. £120 is a bit much for me at the moment but sounds amazing. Downloaded the app.Grin

@Hulaballoo you're welcome! Hope to see you on there soon 😊 Just as a tip, I wouldn't share the chart on there straight away but wait until you're further in your cycle as they're still working ok the community bit of the app and your chart might get 'lost' as you can only share it once. So even if someone comments it doesn't bump up every time. Good luck 🤞🏼

Cakelaur · 19/09/2017 22:35

Hi @Peanutty86 fancy seeing you here. 👋

Cakelaur · 19/09/2017 22:38

@Hulaballoo I also got clear blue advanced fertility monitor . (£200 including sticks) it's also amazing.
@Peanutty86 I'm following your chart I'm laurge on kindara. :)

Hulaballoo · 19/09/2017 22:57

Thanks @Peanutty86 . Just need to wait for my thermometer to arrive... Should have arrived today. Also taking cm...I don't always get any in my underwear...If I do it's not much... Do I just check internally?

OP posts:
Peanutty86 · 19/09/2017 23:02

@Cakelaur I figured 😂

@Hulaballoo I hardly get any in my underwear so I always check internally, many times a day, whenever I get the chance to wash my hands before (and after obviously).

Hulaballoo · 22/09/2017 15:27

Ok little update... BBT fail. I've tried for the last 3 mornings but I seem to be needing the loo between 3-4 am most nights and it's like I wake up and think about getting up to go to the loo "shall I, can I hold off? Grr I'll go" by which point I'm already alert and not even thinking about temping... Then I'm up at 6.30 without having had 3 consecutive hours sleep before hand and my mind isn't fully asleep when I get up... Not in a deep sleep so my temp isn't going to be right..
Any suggestions please? 😳

OP posts:
Cakelaur · 22/09/2017 22:27

No suggestions other than maybe you're pregnant if you're getting up in the night all the time to pee? Maybe drink less before bed so you can sleep well?
My temps do vary each day sometimes by an hour or too. 6.30-8.00 usually. Depends on when I wake up. I take it first thing but I figure it can't be too far off. Good luck though, you'll find your routine. Xx

Peanutty86 · 23/09/2017 10:01

@Hulaballoo I’m the same. I go for a wee almost every night between 2am-5am. I always check the time and when it’s 5ish I temp there and then. If it’s only like 3:30 I go back to sleep. As long as you are not trying to avoid pregnancy and fully relying on this method I would keep trying to temp. It’s the only way to confirm ovulation happened.
The first couple of weeks of temping was horror for me: I woke up several times a night panicking that I overslept, that I forgot to temp etc. Then I read TCOYF and it was such a relief and I finally started to take it easy and had a better sleep, wasn’t anxious anymore upon waking up and learned so much. Especially that you can be a little flexible with times. Good luck!

Hulaballoo · 23/09/2017 11:15

Yeah I'm paranoid that I'm already too awake to temp... I read somewhere not sure where now that you temp before moving, doing anything and in half a sleep state... But I'm a pretty light sleeper. 😫 what's tcoyf?

OP posts:
Peanutty86 · 23/09/2017 12:36

I know how you feel, it took me a cycle to relax but once i got the hang of it I got so excited every morning. It’s like a game. It’s a book called ‘taking charge of your fertility’ by Toni Welscher.
