Hi everybody. I recently got a BFP, but today (day or day before my period is due. (changes monthly whether or not it's a 28/29day cycle) I've just wiped and have a watery brown discharge... is this AF? Can this be normal at all? I don't have cramps or anything, I just noticed it whilst I was wiping Sad any help would be appreciated. Thank you

Hi, I'm in a similar position so not sure if I can help but can empathise!!

AF as due last Sat but I have been late a few times recently so just tried to ignore it. Have been having brown discharge (only when wiping) so just assumed it was early stages of AF.

Finally cracked this morning and had a vvv faint BFP... I am shocked and also not convinced it's real after 11 months of trying!

So I would say maybe the brown discharge is normal but also I am not 100% sure. Sorry that this is probably really unhelpful!

Thank you for the reply Manctart. Congratulations and I really hope this is it for you!!
I had my BFP a few days ago but if I do one now should it be darker? I have FRERs left so I might try maybe in a couple of hours and see what this discharge is upto

My implantation bleed was watery brown discharge. Very light. And it came at about 12dpo (a day after my bfp) and lasted for about 3 days.

Thank you. I just took a test and it came up instantly as positive - (pic taken about 1min after I took the test). I hope it's nothing bad Sad

Don't panic. Sounds like implantation bleeding. Brown blood is old blood and if it's only a little bit (not enough for a pad, just when you wipe) I wouldn't worry. I had the same for a few days at around 4/5 weeks pregnant and now have a toddler rampaging around my sitting room. You can contact your midwife if you are very concerned.

Any fresh red blood, or heavier than 'just a wipe' needs checking out.

Manctart · 14/09/2017 10:18

Ooh well congratulations!! I'm sure it's nothing serious, if you are concerned you can always go to your GP.

Thanks for the good wishes and fx when I do another test it's a bit more conclusive!

Bubblegum89 · 14/09/2017 10:21

That's a strong line for how many dpo you are, I would say that the brown cm might be old blood from last period or from implantation. Maybe just give your dr a call if you're concerned. And congratulations!

I had brown watery discharge at during my first trimester - now a taller than me 14 year old! X

PrimeraVez · 14/09/2017 10:39

I had something very similar and unfortunately for me it didn't have a happy ending. However, when I first reported it to my doctor she said it was very common and the fact that it was brown meant that it wasn't necessarily bad news. I know it's no use to you, but it really is a case of waiting and seeing, there's very little you can do at this early stage. Am keeping my fingers crossed for you!

thesleepsheep · 14/09/2017 11:00

I wouldn't panic. But see your gp. At 5/6 weeks I sat down for a week stood up and there was blood everywhere, I immediately thought the worst so I rang 111 and was advised to go to my day assessment unit, where I had an internal scan and they saw a teeny tiny heartbeat. She's now 8 weeks old!

Manctart · 14/09/2017 16:43

Just wanted to share again - I am so impatient and have taken another 3 (!) tests today which were all positive, very shocked! However just had some bright red bleeding but luckily off to the dr tonight anyway about something else so will mention it then. Bit worried but guess what will be will be!

Misssmoo · 14/09/2017 20:33

Hope your okay xx

ChocolatePancake · 15/09/2017 09:19

Thank you so much everybody for your replies, they really did calm me down in a time I'd otherwise be frantic... there has been no other spotting other than the brown stuff yesterday! It got lighter and lighter (although it was quite light to begin with) and now nothing at all, so I'm hoping it was just all normal.
Manctart - I'm sorry to hear about your bleeding. Any news?

I think it's so useful being able to post on here especially as it's difficult to talk to people in real life until 12 weeks have gone!! Hope you're doing ok.

I went to the dr yesterday but tbh he was so unhelpful. Just told me to go straight to the early pregnancy unit as there was nothing he could do (i know he's right but it wasn't very helpful!!) I decided not to go in the end as there was a four hour wait. I haven't had anything else since then so I am just going to wait and see what happens now. Trying to be relaxed about it but it's not easy! If I have any more twinges or bleeding I will go straight to the EPU but I know there's nothing that can be done.

Sorry for a long post but I find it helpful to write it all down!

Chattycat78 · 15/09/2017 16:46

Very common. I've been pregnant 3 times and had Bleeding in every case. Sometimes pretty heavy red bleeding - on one occasion it lasted for a whole day and I was sure it was a miscarriage. It wasn't.

2 of those 3 pregnancies had happy endings.

Chattycat78 · 15/09/2017 16:47

Oh yes- forget the gp. Speak directly to EPU if you need to. There's no point in a scan before 6 weeks though.
