Spotting - when to test

I'm currently on Cerazette but thinking it might have failed.

Spotting started on Monday and seems to be coming to an end. I've tested negative so far with ClearBlue early.

I read online that you should test 3-4 days after spotting. Is it 3-4 days after spotting starts or after it ends?
