Short first period

I had the coil removed on the 1st, and bled lightly on the 4-5th Sep. 24 hours only, and barely enough for a tampon. EWCM during this stage too.

Was sure it was a short period (haven't have one in 8 years), but I'm now wondering if I was ovulating instead?

Any experience of something similar?

It was a withdrawal bleed. Neither a full period not ovulation. I would expect your full period to arrive in approximately 25 days depending on your cycle length, which may differ from before you had the coil.

EastDulwichWife · 07/09/2017 14:53

Thank you! If that's the case, I should still ovulate at some point over the next 9-14 days so I'll keep an eye on the OPKs and hope to settle down soon! I really appreciate the advice (all the Googling was not helping!). x

In theory you should but don't be alarmed if you cycles take a while to regulate. Mine took a year to settle. Opks will be an excellent way for you to keep track of things, although bear in mind they don't confirm ovulation, only that your body is attempting it. Good luck! X

EastDulwichWife · 08/09/2017 08:53

Thanks Delilah. The Doctor was so casual about it ("you'll be back to normal within 24 hours"). Ahem! Anyway, glad to know I'm not unusual. Did you conceive once your cycles had settled, before, or still trying?

Aph413 · 08/09/2017 08:57

I had mine out on the 31st so we're in the same boat. I only had some spotting as a withdrawal bleed but I wasn't advised anything about when to expect things to get back to normal.
I've been using opks using my previous cycle history and have so far had 5 highs and no peak days.

EastDulwichWife · 08/09/2017 11:42

Really interesting Aph, I'd love to stay in touch if you'd like to compare. I've had a few high OPKs too (I think 3-4?) but nothing positive yet. Feint pink line today so looking low.

Have you DTD much (if you don't mind me asking?!).

Aph413 · 08/09/2017 13:38

EastDulwichWife It'll be nice to have someone in the exact same situation as me to compare notes with!
I've been using clear blue digital because they seem pretty fool proof to me.
We've DTD every other day so far while the opks have been showing as high, I just keep waiting to see if it shows a peak this cycle

EastDulwichWife · 14/09/2017 10:04

How you doing Aph? I'm expecting to ovulate this weekend so we've been as amorous as poss lately! Any update for you?

OP posts:
Aph413 · 14/09/2017 11:43

Hi @East Due to ovulate tomorrow apparently. 3rd day of high readings from my clear blue digital opk. I ended up changing my tracker and starting from my removal date as day 1 of my cycle after realising I'd messed up on using the opks.
Haven't managed to dtd in a few days but planning on changing that today and tomorrow I think will give me my best chances. Fingers crossed.

EastDulwichWife · 14/09/2017 15:08

@Aph very exciting. I'm having no luck with the OPKs (cheapies and I'm getting mixed results). Still, my apps (all three!) say I'm due to OV either Saturday or Sunday so we'll DTD the deed a few times over the weekend if possible!
Is your AF due on the 1st? Mine is due on the 2nd (though that's based on nothing other than averages...). Fingers crossed for you!

OP posts:
Aph413 · 14/09/2017 15:29

These are my clear blue East I've also been using cheapies in the afternoon (currently holding it in to test shortly) and I can't make heads or tails of them. I'm due AF on the 30th I think, although like you it's only based on averages.
What apps are you using? I've got fertility friend it's saying I'll ovulate tomorrow.

Great lines there Aph.

I'm using Clue (Ov Sep 22nd), Ovia (Ov Sep 17th), and Flo (Ov Sep 17th). This is all predicted based on when I bled at the beginning of the month, but my CM seems to be in line with the predictions so it might be right.
Irritatingly the darkest lines I've had on OPKs recently was around the 6th Sep. Was still expecting OV to be much later (17th Sep) so didn't DTD as much as I would have but still managed twice.
Do you test using the Clear Blue at the same time each day?

OP posts:
Aph413 · 14/09/2017 15:48

Not always the same time but it's always my fmu. I messed up and tested last week and since I started with an afternoon test I was getting false positives. This batch had 2 negatives to begin with so I believe it.
We haven't dtd as much as I'd like to to give this cycle it's best shot but I'm generally viewing it as practice.
I used my coil removal date as day 1 in my app so I may end up taking longer if my body started from my first bleed. It's telling me to test on the 5th October either way.
I also haven't been checking my CM this cycle so again it's all guesses

EastDulwichWife · 14/09/2017 15:51

Probably sensible to view coil out as Day 1, as even if you're wrong you'll be early and not late! Just have to DTD for a while after in case!

Us neither, just trying to make sure we're DTD 3 times a week and hoping that's enough to catch a rogue ovulation!

OP posts:
Aph413 · 14/09/2017 16:30

Having serious issues with the internet cheapies. Don't seem to be getting any darker at all, think I'll have to stick with clear blue else I'll go crackers. Keep aiming to dtd every other night then I should catch somewhere along the line

EastDulwichWife · 14/09/2017 17:39

Glad I'm not the only one. Feel as though I'd be able to crack it if I was at home each day, but usually out until 7-8pm and don't find them too easy to do at work..! I'll have to invest in the CB ones next month.

OP posts:
Aph413 · 14/09/2017 17:47

That's my main reasoning for the clear blue. I'm out of the house from 7am til 9pm. Don't much fancy weeing in a cup and waiting 10 minutes at work!

Aph413 · 15/09/2017 16:23

No peak day today. Hopefully it appears over the weekend so I know I'm ovulating

EastDulwichWife · 18/09/2017 10:29

How you doing Aph? TMI alert - I had a bit of pink spotting yesterday. Just twice after going to the loo. Don't know what to make of that, to be honest. Options I guess are ovulation spotting, implantation spotting or signs of AF that I thought may arrive overnight but hasn't.

How are you getting on?

OP posts:
Aph413 · 18/09/2017 11:56

Good to hear from you East. That does soubf like ovulation or implanation spotting to me.
Still no sign of ovulation here. A little concerned as I've now had 7 high clear blue digitals with no peak.
I've had some cramping in my lower left side which may be ovulation pains, fingers crossed but no ewcm or any other indication I'm going to ovulate this month. It's a little disheartening but it's still early days I suppose.

EastDulwichWife · 18/09/2017 12:45

Frustrating isn't it! As much as I don't want AF to come (desperately!), it'd have been handy to have a proper period already so I know what's going on. I don't think you have anything to be concerned about - it'll come! Poor bodies have been on too many hormones for too long. I've had no EWCM this week either, which makes the ovulating idea a bit of a no goer, I suspect. Ah well.... x

OP posts:
Aph413 · 18/09/2017 12:50

So frustrating I don't think my husband quite gets it. I'm ready for it to be the end of the month so I know one way or another what's happening and then I can move onto the next cycle with a real idea of how my body works after 5 years of no period.

EastDulwichWife · 18/09/2017 12:57

Agreed (on both counts). My husband is so relaxed he's practically horizontal....if I only I was the same!

OP posts:
Aph413 · 18/09/2017 19:59

I wish I could relax! I'm over here panicking about cycles and mucus and symptom spotting like a loon! I imagine I'll calm down in cycle 2
